just curious i was playing around with some old motors out of a 7.2volt rc
and i tested them on a 12volt battery they worked fine. what would happen to your 7.2 volt RC if you plugged in a 9.6 volt battery overvolting the thing . will it fry things.??

it depends on what it is. if its a good rc then the speed controller should handle it no problem. if its something like a tyco or any other walmart special it might fry.

We had an electric squirt gun to keep the cat off the curtains. We overvolted it from 6v 4x1.5v to 18v 2x9v. Kitteh stayed off the curtains.

I would guess that almost any RC car would go from 7.2 to 9.6 without any trouble.

It's not the motor that would have issues. As already said the ESC would let all the magic smoke out if not designed to handle it.

I ran a 3 cell lipo 11.1V on an ESC designed for it and found that there were few advantages and lots of disadvantages to 3 cell over 2 cell 7.2V any way.

And wether or not it is a "quality" setup or not has little to do with the ability to run higher voltages. There are "quality" 7.4V setups. Though most are able to do 11.1v. Im just saying dont just hook it up cause the car seems like a good car.
