Quick newb question - oil seal

Is the main oil seal on an F-engine pretty simple (once tranny, clutch and all is removed) to remove? Do I just dig/pull it out any which way (needle nose pliers etc.) or is it more involved? I assume the new oil seal just gets lightly tapped back in?

This is real good advice. When I did the rear main seal replacement ten years ago I b*ggered it up good trying to insert the seal with the oil pan in place.
