Can anyone who's running 295/75/16s on their truck measure the diameter of their tires when on your truck and inflated to street pressure? Please mentions what model tire you have. Thank you.

I apologize for this relatively useless thread. This info doesn't appear to be on search. And I know brands like BFG are notorious for not accurately reporting diameters.

Also, if you're running 285/55/16s can you measure their real world diameter also? Thank you.

(I'f you must know why, I'm debating trading tires with someone and want to know how much actual ground clearance/ improved angles I'd gain).

stop thinking about the numbers and just get on the trail :) If you want more than you have now just go to the next size up. The guy with the stock Michelins did just as good as the 80 on 35's this past weekend. You aren't going to see a vast difference in angles and clearance going from 285 to 295, its not like going from 275 to 315. If you are comparing BFG's side by side you could probably assume that they have the same error in measurement within the line and therefore the relative difference in diameter from their specs is the same regardless. If its 0.5" then you will get 0.5" over what you have now. At to KM2 may be a different story. my 255 KM2 is just every so slightly larger than a worn and loaded 295. I sent you that picture.

at least you weren't asking if 295's could fit under your truck......:bang:.

All tire manufactures give the exact tire measurements on their websites.

Correct answer contained within... :D

The point of the forum is to talk about the numbers. Otherwise we'd all be on expedition portal all the time.

Nothing on Mojave road needs 33s or 35s.

If the tire manufacturer's spec are right, which I noted above they're usually not, then a 295 would be .5-.75in larger. Trying to find out if that's accurate.

I have nittos in 285 so I can't calculate the percentage of error for BFGs.

Are you asking me or Paul?Im trying to find out the diameter or mounted on a wheel on the truck 295s.

My bad, you. The tires you're trading for.

I used to have an FJC with Hankook MT 295/75/16's on TRD 8" wide wheels. When fully aired up they were 33.25" tall. Slightly taller when not on the truck.

Advertised what somewhere near 33.5"

Nitto Terra Grappler 295's. Prolly 20K-ish miles at 37 psi on stock alloys are measuring at 32.25". Plus or minus about half an inch in my measurement error. Yes, I double checked 'em...

When I have compared my worn bfg at 295's to 285's... the difference was around .5".

Relax dude, just giving you a hard time and being a smart ass. I'm up on the mountain without my truck otherwise I would have gone out and measured it for you. You saw my truck next to yours the other day when we went to San bernardino and even commented on how much higher it looked. The extra height made a difference between our trucks head to head in big bear. Get the 295's.

That said I have not been happy with how my BFG's are starting to wear. The rubber is starting chunk out pretty bad and I scraped sidewalls on something on Mojave road so I'm taking them in to get replaced. Thankfully I have the hazard thing from America's tires.

Crappy cell phone pic of my 295/75-16D BFG A/T:

is the angle straight so that 32.5 is what I am reading there? I will measure mine when I get home. I have to take one of the truck anyways. I can lower the spare and compare it as well.

To be clear, these measurements were taken with the tires mounted on the truck. On my 295/75/16 NTG spare with the nubs still on the tread, it measures 32.75" on OEM 16" alloy rim while NOT on the axle.

This is why I blow off everyone's MPG numbers that they "correct" for based on either nominal, or mfg spec, tire diameter. It's all BS. The only way to "calibrate" is simultaneous GPS and OBD-II speed readouts via something like the Torque app. Nitto's tables say this should be 33.27" dia on an 8.0" rim. :hhmm: Straight math on the size says 33.42.

By the time you air down on the trail (I run ~16 psi in mine) you're at ??? effective diamter. I never really cared enough to calculate it...

All 295/75/16s [or any tire size for that matter] are not created equal. The actual diameter is brand dependent. For example, the BFG AT is 33.2" overall dia but the General Grabber AT2 is 33.6". You need the diameter of the tire you are actually using. 0.4" may not seem like much, but it can mean the difference between rubbing and not.
