Hey all,

I’m about to tackle service SA-109. Putting in a new diff lock actuator.

My wrenching experience is limited to brake jobs, oil changes, interior tear-downs and some minor electronic/circuit repairs.

I’ve gone with with the Aisin replacement for the locker since from what I understand they manufactured the locks for Toyota and it is much cheaper.

From what I am seeing, the Toyota repair manual is not clear about how much fluid is going to have to be drained/replaced in the process of this repair. The Aisin-included instructions, however, says I should have some differential oil on hand…

To those who have done the repair - how much oil do I need? Can I get away with a quart on hand to top off if needed? Or am I going to need multiple?

Thanks.

hey I did this 2 years ago and believe it or not, some of my axle fluid did leak out.

wife was upset since I didnt dry it up and it staind the drive way.

I would recommend going ahead and changing the fluid of the axle anyways. Make sure when you put it all back together, the sealant has dried around the port cover and the actuator (i think i put a light coat just in case)

For sealing, Toyota FIPG for Transaxles (orange) was recommended to me by my local Toyota parts guy. Worked as advertised.
