This is my first post on IH8. I purchased a 2000 - 100 series and only received one FOB key. From all information read leads me to believe that this key is one of the master keys. This key starts the engine and remotely locks and unlocks the doors perfectly. I have changed the battery so the efficiency is much better. Additionally when the key is inserted into the ignition, the flashing security light on the dash immediately stops.
My problem lies with the keys that I have purchase after the vehicle. I purchased and had a local dealer program a spare key for ignition that works well, but they were unable to program the key for the remote locks.
Since then I have read all of the information posted on IH8 about FOB and valey keys for the 100 and was able to program my 3 other keys, (one FOB and two valey keys) for the ignition, but I have had zero success to program my two FOB keys for the remote door locks. I read somewhere that the vehicle will only accept a total of 4 masters. Is this where my problem lies?
One other item that I noticed is that my driver door lock will not function through the entire sequence.
thanks Hopper...

FOB lock programming.

Thanks- I read the 1st post, but did not see the 2d post/instructions. I may have to slow down my process. I have not had the locks cycle as described in each of the instructions, but will try again.
Regards- Hopper.

Hopper? what kind of stage name is that? You should put your location in.

Karl

Hopper,

New relays are about 270usd each before discount of about 25%

Thanks Karl
I have attempted to follow the FOB programing guide, but my 2 front locks appear to get tied and to not cycle through the entire lock / unlock sequence to program the remote.

Should I purchase new solinoids or attempt to clean the old ones?
Hopper..

Hopper,
Does your locks (solenoids) work "normally" when you sare using the lock/unlock button on inside of door? If they do, it is not a problem with your solenoids, but more likely with the programming (instructions).

Hi Wellcraft19
Thanks for joining in. To answer your question; when the locks are used repeatedly, IE trying to program the FOB key, the driver’s door and front passenger's doorlocks stops working. There is a click from the solenoid, but the lock indicator on the door panels do not move after repeating the lock and unlock sequence for programming. If I wait a few (5-10) minutes, they will operate properly until I start to repeat the FOB programming sequence again. During the second set of lock and unlock, the lock indicators stop moving and or only move half way from lock to unlock. If I want to lock or unlock the doors at this time, I have to do this manually.

Hey, we're all here to help - and get helped! :)

To me it then sounds like you have issue with the solenoids, but what is somewhat perplexing is that it is "only" the front door ones. Could be the cable harness, but...

Since you will have to pull the door panels in any case (in order to replace them) you might want to start there. PM me your e-mail address, and I can send you a few pictures from when I had my door panels pulled. Just have not yet had time to update my previous posts with photos and some instructions.

OK, I have a dumb question. How do I activate a Camry key? It is a transmitter key without the lock controls. CruiserDan sold it to me to carry as a spare. He said it is a cheap way to avoid being stranded.

Ready to do a dance?

1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2. Insert existing master key into ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

Worked for me, two keys, one normal one and a second with lock controls. Programming the lock controls on a second key is a whole different dance.

Who the heck thinks up these sequences?

lol - see now that was funny... i almost threw in the up up down down left right left right a b start

The dealer told me my solenoid was bad in my driver side because it was "hanging up on him" while he was doing it and then told me how much it would be to remedy. After kindly telling them to "lick my balz" and going home and using the instructions posted on this board I observed that the Tech was doing it wrong. Pay special attention to the timing of the lock/unlock process and start with your master key first. It worked the first time for me after I carefully read the instructions. Good luck!

Boy did I score today. I ordered new replacement shells off of Ebay. $20/each with shipping. I could have done better I hit buy it now before scanning through the list. I bought another Camry key with the transponder but no keyless features from Cruiserdan for $34. And then I went to my local autoparts store with my pile of new keys and they cut them all for free :) One more Camry key to program and I'll have 4 working keys :) well 5 if you count the generic cut one I got from the PO with the cracked up transponder on the keychain. I think that one will be hidden under the rig. It won't start it but it will let me in should I lock my keys in the truck.

Yeah, I got my transponder key (with Toyota logo) for $9 off Ebay, and OEM key with lock buttons for $80 off Ebay (list is over $200). I need to get one cut like you did that's not programmed, just get you back into the truck, good idea.

The dealer will cut them for free as long as you have the truck or VIN and proof of ownership with you. I used my key blade from the old busted shell to hide under the rig and put the guts into a new shell/blade that I got for $12 shipped (Toyota Logo) and another remote key (Toyota) from EBAY for $75. It's definitely the way to go. I had the dealer cut them and I did all the programming myself in less than 5 minutes from the instructions posted here.
