Go and get a can of GUNK at your local auto part store, it’s a special formula to clean the engine compartment, it will cost you about 6 bucks and it will leave your engine looking like new.

After that I spray the bay down with some type of silicon spray, looks new.

Details please. A silicone lubricant? Brand? Diluted?

A couple of areas that have created problems for me are the Throttle position sensor, and the Idle air controller. If water gets in these ( i now use Dielectric grease on most of my sensor connections) they can create irreatic idle, rpm only to about 2800 or so, rough running. All that needs to be done is blow it out some how. Also on pre 95 the connection to the Air flow meter has got me once also. Water can get into the distributor through the holes on the underneath side or the old seal on the cap to distributor seal. later robbie

Thanks for the heads up, it did seam to do a dam good job on the aluminum, I see it was not just cleaning, it was also etching, have seen no corrosion, sounds like it takes long term exposure to remove noticeable amounts of material. Hopefully I got all of it rinsed off, been using it on the wheels and tires also.

Guess I will stick with Gunk engine degrease on the whole engine. I think it is hydrocarbon based? Kerosene?
