Question for Ashville Folks...

Tip 1: Bring Lots of Money.

My understanding is that professional cyclists and students have about the same income (unless your sister is dating G. Hincappe).

Housing is off-the-scale in AsheVegas, so my best advice is to look for an old home near UNC-A, perhaps sharing it with like minded people. Good places to look include the "Montford" neighborhood and older sections of North Asheville.

Since he is in the Cycling community, I would suggest he start his search at Liberty Bicycles, whose staff would probably know of deals around town. They also have a bulletin board where people post up deals like house shares.

Good luck!

My cousin and her husband ended up in weaverville because of the housing cost closer to town. Another idea might be looking north to leicester ( lester to the locals ) , its changin round quite nice recently. Both of these are about 20 min from downtown. My folks are both from the asheville area (city boy and a coutry girl) and i still got lots of family around there. You might even look at swananoah, east of town about half way to black mountain. best of luck to them.

yes asheville is very costly .... one of the most expensive places in the south ... maybe check out the canton area a little out of the way but save some bucks... good luck

All of the above is good advice. Bottom line...stay out of the close in area. The further you get toward Waynesville, Canton, Leicester the less expensivehousing is.

Great community for cycling!

yea, if you can deal with the stink!!

Asheville has gotten out of hand as far as housing costs go. When i was at school at WCU i always thought moving to asheville would be a great little mountain retreat...... now it's too expensive.

Also...try just inside Henderson County...Fletcher. There are still some good finds here also for housing...and your not far from anything you could possibly need. This area is South of Asheville, and close to Bent Creek, which is a local mecca for Mountian Biking. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is clogged with leaf lookers and Road bikers this time of year! Also VERY CLOSE to Cane Creek Products, which you could possibly look to them for work also.

Black Mountain is where I work...you can get expensive quick...but there are some nice older homes that can be had that will fix up VERY NICE.

It really depends on what you want. Out in the Country...or in the City.
