Hello you guys, Was there a plastic type cover that went over the fuses on interior of 1961 - 1962 FJ40? Perhaps one that listed what each fuse was for? Thanks, fjfjfj

metal, iirc

Hello Nuclearlemon, Thanks. Do you have one? Picture of one?

Yes it's a metal cover with a paper label. If I figure out how to post pictures I will.

I see you now have a wanted ad. Can't help with the metal cover but have copies of labels. I believe the picture you posted may be from another vehicle than a cruiser. All those I've seen had FJ25 on the front even the FJ40s. The direct arrow you see is a cut out in the metal and the white is the back of the paper label FYI.

Here the source of the pictures. Those are of my 62 fj40. Looks stock to me.

I'm not sure but I don't believe a 30 amp heater circuit was on the early FJ40s.

Good point. I (of course) have an after martket (dealer installed?) heater. So the OEM fuse cover should not note a fuse for that. Have to check the wiring to see what that fuse is for.

Maybe the cover was (accidently?) changed somewhere in the past 52 years.

Mine has a 30 amp circuit for the heater and it was definately original to the 63 fj45, the funny part is it says fj40 at the bottom. The fj45 had no heater and 63 fj40's it was still an option to have a dealer heater installed.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that the RS20 fusebox is "wrong". The early years, Toyota did odd things with parts, wouldn't be surprised if the box came that way from the factory or dealer. That is a Toyopet fusebox though, the circuits agree with the card in the cover.

This is what is typical for the real early 40's though:

Maybe the 30 amp heater circuit was added during 62 the same time defrost vents were added to the windshield. That would make sense. May explain the RS cover. The only early Fj40 with defrost vents didn't have the cover. I would have to check and see if the fuse block is there. I have to check my earlier 62 to see if I left the cover on that one. It was pre defrost vents.

Just checked the wiring diagram in my original owners manual. This is the same in the 62 repair manual I have. The layout is the same as the fuse box. From top to bottom:
1. From battery to ligthing switch and brake switch
2. From battery to wiper switch
3. From keyswitch to combination meter
4. From keyswitch to flasher unit
5. From battery to horn relay and inspection socket.

while we're on the early fuse blocks, has anyone ever re-riveted the fuse holders? mine are loose, or broken off and i want to re attach them. also looking for a cover if anyone's got a spare ;)

mine are loose
So are mine. I sometimes had lighting problems. You know: the kind of problem that is there when don't have time, and is gone when you have the multimeter by hand. It turned out to be the rivets of the fuseholders. Tightend them a bit with a hammer and a drifting tool. It is OK for now but have to go in to it one day.

Came here looking for a pic of any early block. Acquired one yesterday. Will post soon.

It’s listed in the classifieds now.
