Hi all,

I'm torn between two options.
Our HDJ 100 have the original longitudinal roofs racks how you can see in this picture...

We want to put over the car a Maggionlina Safari roof teent (about 70 Kg), and we are doubting if installing the two original transverse bars over the longitudinal bar it's enough for long travels or it's better install the Rhino Rack Heavy Duty Roof Racks.

Please, someone have experiences with this original bars and large (and hard) travels?

Thanks in advance,
Sergio

roof rack load appears fine.

Hi,

I use a maggiolina extreme roof tent on my LC100 and am very happy with it. I have just mounted it on 4 traverse bars between the standard longitudinal rails. My kayak (approx 20kg) also sits along side it. See images.

oh god, here comes LJ about to ask what wheels do you have and how did you get those fender flares.

I'd mount the maggiolina on the stock side rails using thule/yakima cross bars...but not on the stock cross bars.

Thanks Pete!

What is the manufacturer of this traverse bars? When you installed this traverse bars, you have a completely flat surface for put the Maggionlina?

We are from Barcelona (Spain), and we travel every year one or two times to Morocco. There we have desert and a lot of bad roads, and we want to make sure that the roof bars will not break!

Thanks in advance,
Sergio

Those look like Yakima bars. I have a set that I'm happy with with moderate roof loads. I like the idea of 4 bars.

roof bars

they are Thule heavy duty cross bar. I cut 2 strips off an old rubber floor mat, and taped it on to the front-most, and back-most bars to level out the bar tops (quick jobs day before a trip, and never got round to fixing it).

That rig is awesome.

I have placed every imaginable Autohome fiberglass model on top of my 100 with only 2 Yakima crossbars without any issues - even a Large GrandTour at one time. Anything over 2 is extra strength and weight.

I have a Maggiolina specific Baja Rack made for the Medium tents on order. PM me if you want additional details on this exped rack.

Anyways - Yak or Thule- 2 bars works just fine.

No cross bars needed, just threw the tent on the rack:hillbilly:

is that a solar array in front of the tent? in Oregon we've heard rumor that you can generate power from something called the sun. I type this from a very humid PHX right now...

Yes, it convert the suns energy into 32° beverages without the need for the vehicle ever to be started:D

Nice! Do you have it feed it's own battery or does it directly power the accessories?
