Hello you guys,,,,,,,,,,,We are putting together front doors and windows in my 1962 fj40. I have been under the impression from research that the Vent / Wing window rubber weather stripping is not available for that year or older, not available to buy brand new. Does anybody know for sure if that is true? Also, I am told that newer years have different size wing rubber weather stripping and that it won't work on mine. Can anyone address this? I have my old, and pretty usuable rubber for those vent windows but would sure like to use new if possible. Am I missing something here? Thought I would check with you guys. Thanks.

What you have is Bug Catcher style wing window, and yes they are unavailable. And yes newer style is very different from the older style.
There was a reproduction run a couple of years ago, but I think they are all gone. there was another thread about this recently, there might have been talk about trying another run, I think??
I made some out of later style wing window rubber. It held the glass in, looked ok, but I never opened the windows because the pivot point wasnt that great. It was a good temporary solution. good luck

Talk of another run over in the 45 registry!

Get the ball rolling over there.....

Here is the Bug Catcher thread currently running in the 45 section. Please send any responses to the 45 thread, so we have a single consolidated discussion between the 25, 40 and 45 groups.

I am at the point where we will need to get a sample of the new ones (just a small section from each extrusion), and have an idea of what type of demand there is for them moving forward.

Here is my last post on the subject.

If anyone has any further pictures, CAD drawings, or specs that would be helpful in the process.

I was in contact with Robert about a year or so ago, (can't really remember when) and I was going to send him the money for a set, and then he just stopped replying, and heard nothing back from him...like he just fell off the face of the earth! I do hope he is OK, but disappointed to not hear back when I was "this close" to getting a set.

I'm in for a set at least.

I would also suggest you get in touch with ironpig4x4 here in the 25section, as he has already had some nice seals done for our bifolds, and may be able to help you get these done.

Best case would be to find an original TOYOTA bug catcher seal, and use those as templates. I would send you a section of mine, but my old 40 was too close to a barn fire at some point in its life, and they are simply no good...

Good luck!!

Dean, I bought my horizontals from Ironpig4x4. Perfection. I went ahead and revived my original bug catcher weatherstripping. They were actually in good shape. I also contacted Robert about a week ago, both by phone and email. No response either. Out of the loop.
