I just put the 315/75R16 Goodyear Duratracs on my 80 and I have a slight rub on the front board under normal driving, only when the wheel is turned hard to the right or left. (a very slight rub) I have the 2.5" OME 850/860 lift set up with Slees blue bushings for caster correction, 1 1/4" wheel spacers, and still have a slight stink bug.

I was going to add a spring spacer to the front which would do two things: 1. Stop the rubbing and 2. level the rig out. However, when I called one of our shops to order the spacers and told them my set up, I was told that they didn't recommend the 315 tires and would not put a spacer on the springs. They said I would have lots of problems with driving and vibration.

Since putting on the 315s my rig is actually driving more stable and handling better than with the stock tires I originally had (except for the slight loss in power caused by the gearing change).

I have read allot on here but was wondering if anyone is currently running with my similar setup and if you are having any problems. I don't want to change my lift...$ $ $ .... Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help...

I really wouldn't recommend spacers on top of old worn out springs, but if you're doing small spacers it shouldn't hurt anything. Just buy the Mr Gasket spring spacers and do them yourself, it's not difficult.

Another way to eliminate rubbing (but not level your stance) would be a small body lift. A 1" body lift is easy to do, and less than $50 if you source the parts yourself.

Ebag,
My lift is new, only about a year old. An inch or less spacer is what I was going to use. I will check on the Mr. Gasket Spacers. Thanks!

Sorry, misread your original post.

The Mr. Gasket spacers won't give you that much lift, especially if it squishes. Look at Man-A-Fre at their poly spacers, won't squish and are well built/designed. I'm running those all the way around on mine and very happy with them. They come in 30mm flavor (about 1.2 inches) so will give you quite a bit more lift than the Mr. Gasket spacers.

Peyton,

Do you think the reason your rubbing might be due to the wheel spacers your using? Seems that a LOT of folks on here are running the same 860/850 combo you are with 315's and have no rubbing. Just looking at my truck (which has the same lift as yours) it appears that there would be no issues with running 315's (34"tall/11"wide) without putting a COIL spacer up front.

If you are going to go with a coil spacer, Metal Tech makes a "hard" or steel spacer that fits under the coil bucket in a 1" and 2" flavor I believe. Not as cheap as the MAF spacers (which I've had in the past and are a good product), but they bolt in to the bucket instead of just sit on top of the spring.

Good luck with whatever direction you decide to go. Report back when you can.

Justin

I have medium lift also with 315 duratracs and no issues with rub,no wheel spacers either, you should be fine to get the spacers, tho im not entirely sure it wont rub, i find it kinda odd u r when u have the wheel spacers on there.

Peyton,

X2, wheel spacers can cause front or back rub when turning, test without them.

I have the exact same tires and size ( 315 75 16) and the exact same lift (850/860) and I don't have any rubbing problems. The only difference is I don't have the running boards.

Since its only rubbing slightly, I would just leave it. Or remove the running boards?

I bet it won't rub if you remove the 1 1/4" wheel spacers.

I vote for removing the wheel spacers. I had the 315s on a stock LX suspension for about a month and had no rubbing, now have J-springs and L-shocks, still no rubbing.

x10 on the wheel spacers. I run the exact lift (850/860) with 315 MTRs and I haven't rubbed yet even when stuffed. Try it without the wheel spacers, you'll most likely eliminate the rubbing.

Update: Found time this weekend to take the 1 1/4" wheel spacers off and that solved the rubbing problem. The wheel spacers stuck the tire out just enough to barely hit the mudguard on the front when the tires were turned at a 45 degree angle.

Problem solved....

Although... now my son says he wants me to put the spacers back on because the tires now sit inside the fender and it makes the rig look too narrow...... :meh:

As always, thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!!!

Do you have before and after pics of the spacers and the 315's?

I haven't taken any pics with the wheel spacers off yet. I will try to do that this week.

The rig definitely looks beefier with the spacers on because the tires are even or just slightly outside the fender flares.
