Got the goods from marlin today.

My forward shift case has been hacked into a top shift.

Gotta finish putting it together tomorrow, and hopefully install this weekend.

Sweet.

s*** that was fast!! Right stuff evreything!! Just be carefull on the adapter around the oil rails on the the reduction box housing. I gouped the sealent on thick and it blocked off the oil rails, and ports and i think thats part of the reason my box ran hot and stripped out. Call me if you run into any snags or if you need help building it! We will need to brand you with the marlin cralwer turtle symbol at the next badlands trip!!

I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about those oil rails. I took a picture of how they go in the housing so I can get them back in correctly.

I got shorted on the snap ring that holds the output/coupler against the bearing in the adapter. I think thats what it's for, right?

There is a massive bearing/seal/etc. supplier right by the driveshaft place. If I don't have a snap ring at work, they probably will.

s***!!! Got to work and realized that there is a thrust washer that goes on the main shaft that isn't factory. Gotta get that from marlin and might as well get the correct snap ring while I'm at it.

Marlin seems to be making these types of mistakes more often...

Yea they have, thats why i like to order my marlin stuff through inchworm. Plus you usually talk to the same guy, dont have to sit on hold, and somehow are cheaper than marlin selling marlins stuff.

They are a victim of success.

2 day Fed-Ex for the thrust washer and snap ring was $25!
I know USPS 2-3 day priority would have been about $6 for that.

Kinda sucks how much I have paid in shipping alone for the parts I didn't get the first time.
Oh well. Hopefully that's about all I need.

Yup i would rather sit on hold for an hour and get the wrong s*** sent to me, then run trail gear crawler s*** on my DD. Ill wait for marlin/inchworm quality!!

Well thats not really what i meant. Getting the wrong s*** is never good. Back in the day you had to wait on hold or keep trying for a week to get someone on the phone, but you got dave or mike. Buy everyone complained so marlin hired some phone answerers, they are making the mistakes.

Most of the work is done, the cases are in, floor cut, console modified. Gotta drop the driveshafts off monday, and hopefully test drive on wednesday.

I need a mount to support the front case right? Just looks like a lot of weight hanging behind the trans. For the time being, I think I will build off the trans cross member to make another mount.

Typically, the last case is supported.

There really isn't a provision for a conventional mount on the chain driven case. From the factory, it just hangs there.

Looks like this is what I will be in the markey for:
Front Range Off-Road Fabrication

Ah, then you should be able to support the front case at least for now.

I need to design a mount for my split case. I talked to AA and they suggested making a mount and I agree. A 203/splitcase hanging on five bolts from a 1/8 inch aluminum adapter has broken written all over it.

I have been only running the transmission mount on my doubler setup since 2008. I switched to one of those HD mounts 2 years ago. I would not run one of those front range mounts, i have read nothing but bad things about them. Alot of the taco guys just run a mount to the crawl box and eliminate the transmission mount, or run 2 mounts.

So where are we camping on this one?

I can't bring fire wood this time, as Jenn and I will be attempting to get this barn fj40 all the way to Attica. :bounce2:

If anyone wants to swing by my bro's work (UTI logistics in Monee IL) you can have all the clean wood you want, and any straps he has accumulated to date. It is right off of 57 and is on the way from Chicago.
