Again you speak the truth, " Oh Wise One"

Inner monologue: I wonder how early I can go to Flat Nasty before PYS.....I bet gumby would come with.....Hell, I bet he is there now...I could save the good spot in the camp ground.....I should start packing....

Might be a pain to have to bust through some ice to get your chair to sit in the river, but thats just more ice for your captain.

I'm trying to figure out if it'd be worth the time and money to make the pig road worthy and legal so I don't have to pack up my house to drive to Washita.

I don't even want to think about getting it into Washita's parking lot let alone getting it in and out of Flat Nasty more than once.

I don't care. I'll sit on the river.

We will eventually melt through.

I know I'm stating the obvious... but as long as you can cool (which I think you can based on your setup), and as long as everything is tight and in good shape (bearings, bushings, TRE's), and the alignment is close (maybe toed in and a lot of caster to fight wobbles) you should be fine. The ram will help with wobbles. In the end it should help off road as well. I think one of the reasons I don't break as much as I should is everything is new, dialed in, and highway worthy.

highway worthy.

This^

The most important thing to keeping a rig together offroad is knowing that it needs to get your ass home and to work after wheeling. Well not the work part for John since he has a DD.

Road worthy sure but how legal would it be? The pig is surely more than 3" above stock and would preclude it from being street legal. Knowing Todd it's probably not properly titled, licensed, and insured. He would be any d-bag copper's wet dream. He'll be looking at a minimum 6 hazardous movers and a potential impound of his beloved Pig. I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I would get it licensed again. The frame number has been registered. The body has no number. It has been insured, but it's not right now.

So I'm looking at $200 for plates + more if I want to keep the vanity plates - a bit for antique plates. Not too much for insurance.

The tires have never been balanced and they are very old bias swampers.

The rear driveshaft is bent to s***. It would need a new one. The front one is square so that wouldn't help.

The suspension links are all tight, but the steering is all heims. Who knows what the caster numbers are. They are eyeballed. adjusting it would require changing the upper link.

The shocks are not valved for a 5000lb truck. Way too bouncy.

The wiring is there for the turn signals and tail lights, but not hooked up and after a couple of years of wheeling would probably have some issues. No plate light for sure. No front turn signals or running lights. I could rig something in the grill.

No mirrors. No place to put mirrors. I could fab something.

There are a lot of things that work fine off road that don't have anything to do with reliability off road that would have to be addressed.

It would be kind of nice to leave my house at Summers and drive into town too, but that's not as big of a deal as Washita.

I forgot about the legality.... Stupid fuzz ruin everyone's fun, though you better believe I wont be in front of the pig if its on the road :flipoff2:

I love having a road worthy vehicle. I would say that, at first glance, our trucks prolly look equally illegal. Ive only been pulled over once in the 10 years I have owned the 4runner (2005 it got its sas and became quite the offender), and that was for rear bumper height (I am several inches lower than I was at that time).

I like being able to DD mine as I like. I am sure I could get a few fines if they wanted to be dicks but so far so good.

I'm planning on bringing down my mr2 and driving that to washita so that would leave me with an empty trailer if that means anything...

Just fab up a tow bar and John can flat tow it to Washita.

Brian, if you have an empty trailer I can tow Todd to washita with the 80.

Or todd can tow todd with the tundra....

True. The Tundra can unhook from the 5th wheel and leave the G spot in Flat Nasty where I plan to live until the end of my days.

I imagine Todd old and grey... Well, grey-stepping out of the Gspot 20 years from now still parked at the camp ground. Maybe 12 broke down vehicles parked around the trailer?

You think your going to live for 20 years?

I imagine a man face down dead in the field with a hand full of rocks....having had a rage induced heart attack, while throwing rocks at punks on dirt bikes.
