I've got a question about pushrods and replacement. Has anyone here had any problems with bent pushrods under normal circumstances? I don't want to order an entire new set if I don't need them. Any thoughts or comments on this?
Background:
I'll be replacing my head this week as I've got a leaking gasket or cracked head. I ordered new valve springs from Napa as the new head had dual valve springs installed by the PO. I don't want to wipe out the old cam prematurely so I'm going back to stock. I think valve float in a 2f is a pretty unlikely thing anyway! The engine is a 79 and was installed in my 78' I had some over heating issues and I thought I took care of this with a new radiator and fan clutch. I guess it creapt up on me!
Pushrods:
I've not pulled any as of yet and noting the price of them at 14 bucks a pop I'm going to pull the old ones and check for any bent ones. Anything I should look for other than to see if they are bent or true?
Gaskets:
I've got a new oem set of gaskets from toyota (head) and felpro (intake/exhaust).
Head:
The rebuilt head has new valves seals and has been pressure or vacuum tested ( I had this done as I did not know who did the rebuild on it). I'll replace the dual springs using a rental tool. I hope the keepers will work with the oem springs. The valves appear to be oem toyota units.

Questions about the job:
I've done many different engines over the years from 4bangers to BB chevys but while they are all very much the same, there are little tricks to learn from each differnt job. Should there be anything specific I should look for that could indicate other problems? Any certain order of replacing parts? Would milling the head provide me with any noticable improvements in performance. (engine is all stock with asian carb). what about rocker arm assembly, any problems to look for??

Any advice here is greatly appreciated. I'm going to follow Jim C's advice on valve adjustment that has been posted up numerous times. Thank for your positive input.

Milling the head on my 2F gave me the biggest boost in performance; even my wife noticed the difference. I had it milled 0.080" because I didn't know if it had been decked previously.

Restake the oil plug? I assume it's like a freeze plug? All the way on the rearmost face of the head?

76fj40- Did you have any issues when you resurfaced the head valve clearance push rod length etc?

Thanks for the advice here guys!

Steve and Jim-
Thanks a million. I'll call the shop in the am. I went ahead and dropped it off to be throughly gone over and have new springs installed. I my request a milling and this plug replaced for sure!
