so i'm trading my lx axles for a d60/d70 combo out of a 79 dodge 1 ton, the truck had 2000 original miles with paperwork to prove it so the axles are like new, so the problem is this there drw axles i need to convert the front to srw so i'm getting some hubs off ebay for 350, but i cant find rotors any opinions?and once i get the hubs and rotors will they bolt ont the stock spindle? i'm planning 14" f.o.a coiovers for the front, and 3/4 ton chevy leavs in the reari already have a 3 link up front with hydro assist is there anythng i need t do to the rea axle to convert it to srw?

I thought the mid 80s D60 used the same rotor whether SRW or DRW. You might get lucky there.

Are you getting front Chevy hubs or Dodge hubs? External or internal lock out?

You will also need to investigate the inner axles. In that era they "necked down" and you don't want that.

I assume you have read the D60 bible over on Pirate?

Also you should contact Dusty who has a mondo awesome 80 on full width one tons. Copy what he did-it's great on the trail.

i believe they do, i was told they dont neck down, and i'll read it tonight, this is my first dana 60/70 adventure, ive mainly dealt alot with toy mini, dana 30, 44, 8.8...that kinda stuff

I read up a bit for you.

I think that 79 Dodge will have the less desirable external lockouts and neck down inners. The hubs will be wrong since they have DRW spacing but the good news is that I think the Chevy SRW hubs will fit on the spindles and solve your width and rotor mount problems.

I have a mid 80s Chevy SRW Dana60 you are welcome to come over and look at for reference.

The D60 bible is pretty detailed on all of this but you won't know until you have the axle in hand.

Are you sure you don't want to buy the combo outright and sell your existing bits when the swap is complete?

Keep in mind that all the value is the front axle. D70 rears are common and not too expensive, and 14 bolts are even more common, cheaper and stronger.

you are correct, i can always upgrade the shafts later, and as far as the hubs, since i'm conerting it to srw doesent that cnvert the external hubs to internal?

i can't help you on the d70 but i have been looking into the dodge dana 60 cause i picked one up for a good price. are you going 8 lug or 6? that is gonna be the most important question. for the most part dodge and chevy parts are interchangeable with the exception of the short side inner axle, and a few other small parts. once you get the new hubs you will have to supply your own lock outs or drive flanges. brake disc are gonna depend on what lug pattern you go. i have saved plenty of links for the conversion. good luck

i would agree , i payed $500 for my dodge dana 60 and you could pick up a 14bolt for 200 at a pick a part. seems you have way more money in your axles and could probably sell for more. just my .02

i'm going to stay with 8 lug...unless i can find out how to convert a d70 to 6 lug, i could just buy the adapter hub and rotora from parts mike, there almost the same price as the stock ones i'm buying lol

I ended up giving the last 14bolt I had away for free... :meh:

DANG, I LOVE 14 BOLTS TO...there really easy to set up, but my only issue i just found out that dually rear ends are 5-6" more narrow than a standard full width is that true?

Axle is the same, the difference is 100% in the hubs.

So they will be the same width when i convert the front to srw? Morris at parts mike told me the rear axle was more narrow in the rear

WMS-WMS for 14 bolt Cab and Chassis axle is 63 inches roughly. That should be a very close match for stock 80 series Land Cruiser.

SRW hubs make the WMS wider-I want to say 67 inches

For Single wheel Chevy Front Dana 60 it's 69 inches roughly, Dodge was an inch or so narrower I think.

No Idea what dually Dana70s were, but that info should be out there, or take a tape measure.

A DODGE 60 IS 2 INCHES more narrow than a chevy 60, and i think i'm going with a 14 bolt rear, it sucks because these axles have the factory 488 gears, i'll double check the wms on the 70 tomorrow

about converting rear to 6 lug

from what this says u may be able to use dana 60 hubs on the rear D70 if the spindles are the same as the dana 60.. looks like they have lots of similarities between both axles. Dana 70 Rear Axle tech

That's good gearing.

Just run it. I would not bother converting to 6 lug wheels. Keep it 8 and just buy some new inexpensive steel wheels.

A D60 front usually will need at least a 16.5 inch wheel to clear the calipers. 17s will give you more tire choices.

Nothing you do is going to be cheap.

Make sure you read Dusty's thread.

I CAN GET AWAY WITH A 16, I might have to do a little grinding but rthats fine, ive read dustys thread a bunch of times...i wish i had oodles of money like him lol

Can you put up a few pics of the 3 link frame side as well as axle side?

Did you break with toy Axles? or just now wanting to push them and get larger tires?
