I did the same thing several years ago. Cork is still in place and doin' it's job. The tough part was putting the cork in place after drinking 4 glasses of vino.
 
For the cardboard box tap guys, JB weld the tap to the fitting under the cowl and drain as needed into a bucket or similar apparatus. For best results use in a dry climate or make frequent drainings. :)

Any ideas for the middle of the road people who use still buy wine in the bottle but it has a the screw on cap?

74 was the only year the vent was welded shut and the drains run thru the firewall. For the mid 65 to 73 model with a working vent it helps to remove the grill and vent in the cowl.Then have a person working from the top as well as the bottom when messing with the hoses.
