Hi Guys,

Haven't been here in a while. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2002 LC or LX. I currently have a 99lx470 with an ARB and winch. I'm upgrading for the TC and NAV. I found pleanty of truck to pick from, but am wondering which I would be better purchasing.

I off road my truck when in the mountains and do some local stuff here in Tucson, AZ. My LX went through three diffs until they finally upgraded to the newer, stronger unit. I want the TC because I feel this will make things easier on the drivetrain and I've seen it working in the mud, snow, and trails. It seems to really work well and stops excessive wheel spin in most cases.

My concern is with that big bumper and 12K winch on the truck, I wonder how long the LX suspension will last. I plan on a rear bumper and Slee sliders. Will the LX suspension work well with this extra weight. It's worked so far.

How is the handling with the 2" lift kit from Slee?

So, it's either a 2002 LC or LX. Your comments are appreciated.

Check out the post:
An AU Epistle for overweight LX 470s & LCs with AHC. (Part 1)

If you are going to carry significant wt (including front & rear bars and wt on the tow ball) with a vehicle equipped with AHC, which I assume the LX has, then you will need to look at doing something with the rear suspension.

Perhaps your decision should be based on all the other extra LX features other than the suspension. You can always remove the LX suspension and go with OME, Bilstein or whatever.

Actually, I would prefer to get an '03 LC over an '02 LX.

I would get the LC and spend the savings on accessories:D

I am taking the ARB bumper and winch from my 99LX and putting it on the new rig. The ARB bumper and winch will only fit up the 2002 model. I have to have a winch, as I am 4wheelin alone often in the high country in Greer, AZ. It's gotten me out of situations that I would be hiking many miles to get home.

Also, there is no savings in the used market when looking at LC vs LX470. Their resale pricing seems to be the same. So maybe the LX is the better value used. I'm looking at a one owner 2002 LX470 with all options for $28,500 plus shipping of about a grand. 2002 LC's are the same.

Thanks,

George

I'm not so sure your LX ARB bumper will fit an LC.

I agree, the LC bumpers supposedly do not cross over to the LX, I'd expect the reverse to be true as well.

Since you have an LX already, and you found one you like, I would go for it. You know the parts will fit and are used to it already.

Got a 2002 LX today. Being shipped. It's got all options and is Lexus Certified. The ARB stuff is coming off the 99 and the stock stuff going back on. Then to the body shop to clean up a few mishaps on the trails. You know, just turn the music up, that scrape will buff out.

Ordering sliders from Slee and pudding the 02 ones on my 99. They are now in the shape of a shallow U on both sides. The truck has been very good to me for the past four years. I really just wanted A-Trac, VSC, and Nav with the Mark Levinson.

Thanks for all the input.

Is the 99 going on the "For Sale" forum?

99 Lx470

[Haven't thought about it.

It's a 99470 with Nak, DVD, and the updated 2000 Differential installed under warranty.

The truck is that River Rock Mica. Gray with green in the paint. I did break two diffs, and they were coveren under warranty. This truck was an offroader and took me to work, kids to soccer, and just did a bang up job.

Everything works and it's going into the body ship to make everything as new. I'm anal about appearance. Backed into a tree on the left corner. So new rear bumper cover, taillight, and new runningboards will be installed. If someone wanted Slee sliders we could work something out. It has 78K. All maintenance was completed.

I'm taking the 285 75 16 BF AT's off and installing new Mich.

I'd take $21K for the truck.
