I have had many off road prepped 4x4, and I can't believe how much I enjoy my "new to me" LC. This is a second car, and seem to be driving it 95% of the time. It is so much more capable than my Rover LR2, and Jeep Cherokee.

The only 4x4 I had that was better was my 96 Reg cab,V6, 5sp Taco. But that's a different beast. The LC offers 9/10ths the performance with so much more usability.

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction when looking for body parts, OEM or otherwise. Need to change out my rear assembly due to some rust, and Toyota wants to charge me over $2000.

Thanks, and look forward to sharing my modification journey with the forum.

What's a rear assembly?

It's a 100 Series thing. The 80 Forum called, they said your break is over. Traitor.

I miss the old days where the Late Night Moderation Team would come in and clean up the stuff left behind from the day crew.

Oh..... And to the OP, Welcome! Lets see some pics of the new ride.

Bump the rear assembly?

I agree, the 100 series rocks. I'm tempted to use my 2000 to get me threw winter up in Michigan, and when I'm back in Florida this summer upgrade it to a 2006 LX/LC

Give it time ...I thought the same thing when I got into my 2000, but as time wore on, I realized I want my next LC to be a 200 series..

The honest knock against Land Cruisers is styling. They are conservative vehicles, no doubt. The response many have given me when I tell them what an LC costs is, "70k for a toyota?" But I think the real truth to that is that American car buyers don't quite appreciate reliability. Hell, most don't understand it until they're stranded.

The best car salesman is a celebrity or even a neighbor that drives a vehicle. This website is full of very rational, but risk taking people who understand the LC capability, while most people simply want to touch and feel their way to a vehicle that has their choice of cupholders. But due to cost, seeing a new Land Cruiser up close is no simple task. They aren't on every street corner. But once you've driven one or been somewhere where you think to yourself how much you need that dependability and capability, you're kinda baptized.

I have to admit I find myself prowling the Toyota dealerships late at night looking over their 1-2 LC's in their lot:)

I have to agree that Land Cruisers aren't real lookers. However, on styling alone I actually prefer the 100 over the 200. Perhaps the 200 will grow on me, but really I think that it is a better proportioned vehicle overall. The only thing I really wish I had from the 200 are projectors and HID's which weren't available up until a couple years ago I think.

To the OP, welcome to the club from another new owner. I had a friend who had an '04 Taco and that thing could wheel! I had an '01 4Runner which took quite a beating, so I'm excited about having this 100 for years to come.

spaber05, that's the trend - "... prefer the 100 over the 200". The 60 is just awesome. The 80, still pretty awesome but much more refined... the 100 is not as cool as the 80, but even nicer and more refined... the 200 is even more watered down than the 100, but even more refined. And, with each series, we think "Uhg, that's awful, they ruined it" Then, a few years goes by, and we warm up to it. Hard to say if I will warm up to the 200... just sooooo far down the lux' path.

I used to swap cars every 9-18 months. I'm 46-years-old and on my 27th car (had a Land Rover too). Then I bought my first Toyota - an FJ Cruiser. Had it 4 years - loved it... Then got the 100 about 3 1/2 years ago. I really don't think there's a car or truck out there I'd rather have - at any price.

A friend of mine has a Lamborghini. Another just got a GT-R. They asked when I'm going "upgrade". I laughed and said I already did. ;)

I honestly did not like the looks of the 200 when it first came out. Often mistook it for a Highlander, which is the prodigal soccer mom car around here. But, it has grown on me and I like the facelift in 2013. I love the looks of the 100 even more than any prior generation, but I too admit that I secretly look at 200's when I see them parked or at the dealership.

It's incredible the loyalty the LC has fostered. I bought mine because a good friend of mine's wife survived a pretty bad crash with little fanfare while the other cars were badly mangled. She was in a 100. He started with an 80, then he bought a 2000 LC, which was used by his wife and is currently driven by his daughter. He then bought a 2005 LC, which his wife drives now. And now he drives a '13 LC. It's his 4th LC and he says he won't buy anything else. I never understood before owning one, but now I get it and hope my next one will be a 200.

Those are two good points: 1) the safety 2) the multiple land cruiser owner. I figured you had to be the king dullard to buy a 2nd vehicle of the same brand, but Im certainly considering the same. It's essentially just embracing safety and being utilitarian.

I had that same thought... If my fiance and I both love our 100 series but need another car, why not just duplicate what we already know to be super solid. We'll be on the market for another 100, possibly early 200, in 2016 I hope. I also want a first gen Tundra to compliment them lol. To the OP, welcome aboard, enjoy the ride!

Same here. Went through many vehicles (20 plus) and have owned my 100 for 8 years. The Clark Kent of the vehicle world and I prefer it that way. If I have explain to someone to long about it, then I usually recommend they stick with something else. I will probably end up with a 200 but the 100 is not going anywhere. If I had the cash, Dieseltoyz would be installing a 1hd-fte into my current 100.

At 225k and 15 years old it is still more solid then most new stuff that just makes me smile.

Yeah, Im not sure the DieselToyz makes sense economically, but........it's CRAZY gas mileage and it's only 4.5 hours from my house and if I were to find a cheap 100 in Australia, I could easily.....damn, this is so addicting.

It's also pretty addictive to be able to simply modify things you might like better and the lesson my LC has taught me is that there is a world of difference between great design and luxury. I''m a no frills guy, but if I wanted to make my LC more luxurious, It would be a cinch and it's fairly luxurious as it is. But as you stated so eloquently, there isn't much sense in explaining quality to people that don't already appreciate it.
