Hey guys,

I'm posting here because I am very close to purchasing a 2017 GX and I would appreciate some general purchasing advice. I have only ever driven a land cruiser (it was my first car 8 years ago and I will be keeping it) however the new ones are simply out of my price range. I figure the GX is the closest I will get. I have taken this 2017 home for an extended test drive. It does not have the adjustable suspension which (I believe) is a plus. It also has the black interior and a non-wood steering wheel which I prefer.

This will be my first major vehicle purchase and I appreciate any pointers or knowledge you guys may be willing to share. It has nearly 38k miles and is fresh off of a lease. They just did a bunch of brake work (F&R) and put four new tires on it. It is certified at my local Lexus dealer.

Attached are several pictures. I live in Pennsylvania so I expect there to be a little bit of rust. Unfortunately it seems to be unavoidable. If, however, you guys think this is considerably more rust than a 3 year old GX should have - please say so! If there is anything at all which catches your eye in a negative fashion, please let me know. I am not super learned on the GX so I am coming here to the experts.

Thank you in advance and I look forward to hopefully becoming a contributing member of your subforum. Please let me know if additional pictures or information would be helpful for you guys to check it out more thoroughly. I did not include interior pics as it is essentially as new.

Mike

Looks awesome. That little bit of surface rust wouldn’t bother me one bit. If the price is right then go for it.

Thank you for the responses.

Just got back from driving her around some more. She drives beautifully and I think the land cruiser is jealous. I had a deposit down on a 4runner last week and I'm really glad I followed my gut and decided to not follow through with the purchase. The Lexus is in a completely different class in terms of quality.

I'm going to sleep on it but I'm feeling good about this.

I’m new to Gx’s, so I may be wrong here, but it looks to me like the t-case has been opened. Maybe that’s common? Is that a common service item?

Looks like a great rig. Seems to be very clean underneath. I don’t like the cheap tires someone decided to buy, but that is a personal issue of mine:)

5th Gen 4Runners and recent GX’s are totally different beasts. We had a 14 Trail Premium and went to a 13 GX Premium. No regrets (Except for looks, just preferred the way the 4Runner looks).

We miss our 100 Series every day! Had a 99 until it tried to kill me... fun truck.

Older, future you will appreciate a GX!

Looks great....priced right ? Buy it.....

As I've mentioned in my searches...ended up with an '11 Premium

That's the price range I wanted in.....$22K

Along with being registered in SW USA......AZ & NV to be exact

Short trip yesterday...250 mile RT.....awesome car...solid & comfy

Thanks everyone. The price is right at market value. According to CarGurus, it's about $500 under market. I've looked at a couple others that are 1-2k under market but the interior of those is nowhere near as nice as this one. There is basically 0 wear on the interior. Must have been a very light individual who drove it as the drivers seat looks new. I drove a 2014 that had the worst mix of cigarette and wet dog smell I could have ever imagined. That was slightly off putting.

Unfortunately It's one of those "plus" dealers that won't negotiate. I did get them to come up on the trade in (lexus ES) and include window tinting as part of the prospective deal.

I agree with you on the tires @natehack - wouldn't have been my choice. I suppose the dealer needed to put new ones on in order to certify it.

Overall I cant believe this is cheaper than the leftover '19 4runner I almost got. I am remaining undeterred after my sister called me a "soccer mom." Some people just don't get it...

I don't see a single drop of oil or any moist areas = good sign!
What's the trim level?
My wife and I both had our own 100 series Landcruisers and loved them! She sold hers for a newer red Tacoma crewcab and I sold mine for the 2013 GX460 I've built on this site. I actually like the GX better. More features and a little smaller for off road trails.

Purchased! Really glad I decided to pull the trigger, it feels right. I'm happy to be joining you guys here. They did a great job cleaning it up - it's spotless.

@r2m I'm still a bit confused on the trim levels. I believe it is the premium trim as it has the heated and cooled seats. It's definitely not luxury as it does not have the adjustable suspension.

Pics soon to come as soon as I have some more time!

congrats on the purchase, all that matters is that it feels right to you. on the trim level, it's got base wheels and the base non-wood steering wheel. does it have triple zone climate control? looks like you've got a good platform to start from.

Sweetness, nicely chosen!
If you have not already:
Check out lexusgxor.com for ways to fix, tinker with, and spend on your new to you GX.
If you Facebook, the GXOR - GX Offroad group is filled with knowledge.
The 2nd Gen GX forum at clublexus.com is slightly more active and also a deep well of info.
Enjoy the ride!

Looks great! I have had a 2017 GX Premium for a couple of years and it rocks. Good amount of aftermarket options available too (more than I expected, anyway). Congrats on your acquisition!
