Hey just wanted to share my latest project with you guys.

After running out of CO2 for the last time I decided to switch to an OBA system.
Picked up one of those Puma 12v compressors off of ebay and took it to my fabricator in Temecula to have them build up a bracket that will fit over the 3rd row seat bracket. This is what they came up with.

I had them tuck the mount up over the wheel well so it wouldn't get in the way of anything loaded into the cargo area like a fridge or other box shaped objects.

Very happy with how the mount came out. Did the electrical myself with a dash mounted switch.
Can run air hose out of the sliding window to air up tires, blow sand out of the interior, run impact tools :D:wrench:. Rated at 3CFM @ 90 PSI 100% duty cycle Its actually more powerful than the dinky little pancake compressor I was using at my Dad's place. Anyway tons of people have done the same setup on mud I just wanted to share how I did mine. It'll be nice not running out of CO2 at an inopportune time. Especially since the local welding supply shop charges me 20 bucks a pop each time they fill up my 10# tank whether its completely empty or not :bang:

Am going to have to keep an eye out for one of these. I have my CO2 mounted on the 3rd row bracket. Wouldn't take too much to extend it's platform to accomodate a Puma. Faced with what feels like about a half tank of CO2 and need to fill it prior to Moab and will get hosed for a complete fill just like you.

What gage wire did you end up using and what size fuse? Dash switch for power on/off?

Very nice mount your fabricator came up with!

Just noticed reading thru Tools R Us's thread and others and realized that all the installs in the 80's including Ryan's above are mounting the compressor on the left side because of the output quick disconnect direction! My CO2 is mounted on the right side and it's where I'd want to put the Puma. My Left side is covered with a removable cover for my drawer system. I could take it off, but right now it conceals my Ham radio base unit.

EDIT - DOH!!! I can just put the output at the rear of the truck! God I'm a dumb**** sometimes!

I have been thinking about this as well, or a small portable since my last 10Lb exchange at westair was $35. I may try the cheap Chinese mv50 from amazon $65 in the short run.

How much did the mount cost?

Very nice.

6GA wire run, 70A breaker near the battery, 50A Maxi-fuse near the compressor. SB50 Anderson PowerPole connectors in case I need to disconnect and remove. 80A Relay with round dash switch that fits into the punch-out cover next to the fuse panel. The bracket cost me ~200. I don't know how much Tools R Us is selling his bracket for but I'm sure it could be done fairly inexpensive. Especially if you know how to weld. I don't and I'm very happy with what I got.

You could mount it on the right side and the output would be oriented at the window. I bought a 90 degree elbow so it would face straight up. I'm only on a single battery so the left side made the most sense in for me in terms of wiring.

Thanks you Sir.

Where did you buy the 90 degree angle from?

I didn't buy the materials and if you mean the square tube I'm pretty sure they just cut it and joined it to make a rectangle frame.

Sorry I meant the 90 degree elbow. I found it on amazon. Thanks

How loud is the Puma? Does the whole town know you're running an air compressor?

Passengers would prefer to be out when the PUMA is running. Takes me 10min start to finish to go from 14 - 36 PSI on 35's.

Puma mounts are now available for both sides HERE

Is that 10min per tire?

Start to finish for all 4 tires or 2mins 10sec per tire. I do it so much I use a stop watch:rolleyes:
