Pulsing, echoing, vibration only when accelerating (1 Viewer)

Will do on the trans fluid. Reading up on the shudder seems odd as mine is consistent throughout the gears. The fierceness and sound only increase with speed and doesn't change or let up in certain gears or shift points. Seems to be a second stage symptom of the original pulsing sound for which I made this thread. It started the quick shudder out of the blue and it was intermittent for a few days. I can get on the highway cold and it isn't there for 5-10 minutes and now it will not go away as it did in prior days. Feels like I'm dragging on the rotors but nothing sticking from my checks.

Transmission shudder is pretty distinctive and normally occurs during torque lockup. Most experience between 35-45 MPH when it locks up or when you feather the gas and the transmission downshifts. I can’t see that it would be continuous and would go away once the vehicle is in neutral.
When you experience shudder, it’s like driving over rumble strips out of nowhere. Once the transmission catches it will stop.
Still sounds like something in your driveline IMO.

Doesn't seem to match my issues though I'll be doing the transmission fluid change anyway. There is real power loss going on. I need to floor the gas pedal to maintain speed and it just feels sluggish.

My 1998 LX470 vibrates upon acceleration between 40-75, but only when accelerating. Like these previous posts say that I've been reading, it goes away as soon as I come off of the accelerator. Going crazy trying to figure it out.

Thought I'd update - still no fix. I have done a ton of work on the vehicle along the way. This problem still remains. I just live with it. It only happens around 70 mph and disappears the second I let off the gas. It is present a bit below 70 but builds and is loudest 70-80 then the sound evens out. Wheel bearings done, ball joints done. About the only old thing in the front is control arm bushings. It is a pulsing drone that sounds like it's right below the driver. A deep sounding WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM which evens out after 80 mph. All u-joints were replaced for routine maintenance, new tires and so on. Frankly, I think it's an exhaust resonance but it's too loud to "be normal". Wonder if it's a leaking exhaust manifold but no tick. Quite comical, at 70-80 mph, the coast is silent. The second I apply acceleration it occurs. Foot off gas, disappears instantly. No vibration or shuttering anymore - that was other issues (ujoints if i remember right). Just that damn sound.

Have you checked the fluid level in your front differential? I had a front differential leak on a 3/4-ton Chevy work truck I had, and it ran dry causing noises similar to yours.

I have a similar sound. I am the only one that hears it and I feel it in my feet. I think mine is much less than yours but similar symptoms. I am having an issue with the gasket at the driver's exhaust flange at the cat. I plan to do a front end overhaul this spring so I havent tried to find it yet. I wonder if it could be the bearings in the front diff?

That's what I was thinking. I had to rebuild that differential after it ran dry, as the bearings were functional but made an awful noise. When I rebuilt it I also found out that not only were the bearings toast, but the stub axles were warped and also had to he replaced.

Because our front wheels are driven by the AWD system, instead of having locking hubs, I would think that it might be "routine" maintenance like a wheel bearing or carrier bearings would. Perhaps that will be a good reason to feed my wife to re-gear

If only my wife would buy that, then I'd only be left with coming up with a defensible reason as to why I need to add lockers at the same time. So far my attempts to explain that all my previous Jeeps were winched and locked and therefore my GX needs to be too have moved her very little. 😕

I use the "routine maintenance, and the.... while I am there..... I might as well do XYZ, it will save money in the long run" :)

Been busy so I haven't driven or worked on this vehicle. Although I changed the driver's side CV a few days ago. The gx470 is still making that pulsing sound but now there is an additional symptom only when accelerating. A very intense shudder/vibration when accelerating. It feels and sounds like I am driving over rumble strips whenever I have the gas pedal depressed. Not bumpy, but the vibration is similar. Very tightly packed rumble strips as the vibration is quickly paced. Acceleration is also labored. I need to floor it as it feels like I am dragging something. No sticking caliper. Sounds like it's from the front. Will be changing wheel bearings and u-joints. From brief research, I see some people with "rumble strip" 4runner issues. Torque Converter? Might be a different issue as this is only under load. This is at every rpm, regardless of gear. Although it is hard to notice at slower speeds and light acceleration. Neutral doesn't make it go away as it's only under mild+ acceleration. I'm betting it's a bearing or u-joint but eager to figure it out. The vibration is quite aggressive. Feels like I'm dragging a brake pad.
Hi SOTF, did you finally find the problem?? I have the same issue.. Thank you!
