This may be a solution looking for a problem but Ive been drumming up a design for a clutch dog boot on a PTO winch. I want to run a mid-mounted PTO winch but I’m worried about mud and crud blocking the clutch. I also just think it would be a kinda cool project.

Has anyone found I right sized rubber boot or bellows for this purpose? I drew one up w CAD only to print it in TPU plastic 30% bigger than intended. The TPU also isn’t flexible enough.

I’ve come across a few potentially right sized bellows which I’m going to test fit and report back w but thought I’d throw this out there.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Never seen one. I'd be worried about trapping water/salt inside the boot. Maybe one of the zippered boots for a cv axle replacement

I would just measure the diameter and find a hose with the same interior diameter and length that matched when disengaged. Split and put over a well greased section with the opening at the bottom. That would keep most the dirt out and allow moisture to drain out the bottom. The bigger issue with the PTO winch is the splined shaft running thru the boxes front frame member. At some point Toyota shortened the female part that's a universal joint and shear pin on the opposite end. That long spline rusts and hard to get at it. Did some trading once with somebody I was getting the winch and driveshaft. I offered to come over and remove it but he insisted he could handle it. He ended up destroying the long NLA aluminum pillow block bearing housing. Anyone figured a way to break the rusted splines in that boxed area of the frame I'm very interested in how.
