It corrects hood flutter through the use of urethane foam and some 3M NVH products (3MTM NVH Dampening Material 200 ML Cartridge (04274)

Nice! I'll take this with me next time I take our GX in for service. I told them about it the first time I went in and they just looked at me like I was crazy, then said they had never heard of hood flutter before. I insisted they add it to our file so that there was a record of my comment, now I can just provide this and ask about it which should make it a lot easier - my serial number is prior to the one indicated.

The question here is are the newer ones (coming after the VIN listed) corrected with the same procedure or did they change the actual manufacturing process to stop the hood from looking like it is going to fly away?

The change would be implemented at the factory.

Not what I asked. My question is:

At the factory, are they using the same solution proposed in the bulletin or changing the hood manufacturing so that it does not flutter like crazy without any of the add-ons foam bricks. If it is the latter, the bulletin seems to be a band-aid more prone to failure. In any event it is just one more example of the risks of buying a first, or second-year new model.

I would expect that the manufacturing process is modified to implement a variation of the manual fix. Adding additional NVH Dampener/Seam Sealer is pretty standard for automotive manufacturing.

How about a thicker skin? This solution seems cheap and temporary. I'm glad they are doing something about it, though. My buddy is a Lexus master technician, and he repeated to me the old wisdom of don't buy a new model within the first few years. This bears that out.

Best IME is to use a Toyota Dealer that has a collision shop or one that farms out repairs like this to an experienced shop. IDK if they will do that
for a Warranty repair??

FWIW

since the bulletin mentions it is due to failure to the mastic between the hood skin and the brace, one would assume they modify the adhesive, clamping force, or amount of connection points to the brace. If they dont modify the shape of the brace to have more contact points, they would need a foam insert applied from the factory.

should this apply to the LC250? that hood flutters as well

not sure, but my GX is at the dealership now getting this done. I'll report back. now, if they can get the roof rack noise to go away...

update? thanks!
The dealership did their thing and no more hood flutter! I also removed the roof rack over the weekend and I am liking my car more than before. It has taken me 15K miles to get there... Next will be to find some crossbars to take the place of the factory rack. I need them for my Thule box.
