OSH going out of business. Only 2 weeks to go it seems. Fasteners are 70% off and likely more soon. And still lots of stock. Already got me some grade 8 stuff, threaded rods etc. Rest of the store is 30% off and up but the fasteners are the best deal I think. Stuff like chain and wire rope accessories and weldable metal is 50% off.

who is OSH ?

Orchard supplies and hardware. It's a chain, I think mostly in the West. Owned now by Lowe's maybe. Started out in the 30s as a coop of some sorts. Kind of like a home depot but smaller, friendlier, and had more oddball hardware. More interesting stock than your typical ACE. Will be missed.

More interesting stock than your typical ACE.
Our local Do-It-Best hardware has a pretty good stock of metric hardware, but the Ace hardware in Santa Fe has even more. I usually stop in there when we go down.

This is the second time a biggish hardware store goes bust locally since I've been here. I remember that with the first one, the last day the store was open they were selling stuff for 1c each, literally...

Unfortunately, there is a human cost to this. I was chatting with an employee today and he said he had worked there for 12years... Lowe's offered him a job but 35 miles away... Sad.

I saw the story about Lowes closing the OSH stores awhile back: Why Lowe's is closing stores and slashing inventory

Personally, I do my shopping at Lowes. I find Home Depot to be more geared to the typical homeowner and don't see Lowes trying to be more like Home Depot as a good thing.

I don't know how Home Depot stores are so big and I still usually can't find what I need (want?). But maybe that's more a reflection on me than the stores... :hmm: Gotta stop playing with weird hardware...
The guy I was talking to in OSH said that Lowes may put in a "Boutique" store at the location to finish off the lease. No idea what that is...

The thing that's interesting about a sale like that is that it's basically gambling about timing. Say I need some 3/4" grade 8 6" bolts like I just bought for a hydraulic press I'm building. Normally about $7 ea in the store. Pricey. Now $2. Damn good deal for those. Buuut, there are only 5 or 6 left. Do you wait for the 90% off sale at the risk of not having any left at all...? Or do I buy a bunch that I probably will never use? It's a casino I tell ya! I can see pros using a lot of fasteners swooping down on the store and emptying all the bins before too long.

What are you saying about stocking up on hardware? :geek:

learned also a long time ago that my wife is not too keen on going in the nightmarishly crowded garage/shop.... so.... yea.... there are things to be found in mine too... :D

Dang, the store closed earlier than expected. I was planning to hit it today for 1c grade 8 bolts hopefully... Shut down.
Bet some big vulture scooped it all up in one fell swoop... So that us little vultures are going hungry....:crybaby:
:D
