Stock pumps are just that, stock. They won't give you the power or flow that a modded pump will.

I just was talking to Matt .. how great guy.

He take the time to explain that a new pump maybe are not the problem .. coz a new pump will put the box and all steering in the same situation - on the limit.

So he recoment start with a ram assist that I will do and see if after it I need another pump ..

1.5" X 6" will be enough .. ?

Matt also comment about the wrangler PS pump .. that they use usually to modify ut he said are good in stock anycase ...

So maybe ram assist with a stock cheap wrangler pump will do the trick ..

comments ?

Ram assist would be high on my list of things to do.

the 60 box is easy peasy to port..

really . ?

I have a few pics from Toyota boxes tapped for ram assist .. just not sure if I can re arm it again after tapping

And the 1.5"X6" it's enough cylinder . ?

Just thinking maybe I can source a rebuild FJ40/60 toyota PS pump and run with the cylinder ..

The box is easy to tap...

I ordered a rebuild kit from CruiserDan, (my box was leaking- not necessarily required) looked at Mace's thread and some other info on rebuilding the box and got it done pretty quick. Works great.

1.5x6" is appropriate for most high steer arm'ed Toy axles. 7" stroke is needed if you are running stock arms.
I went ahead and used a 1.5x8" ram (running stock arms). The rams are easy to internally limit to whatever stroke you want.

After a piss poor experience with Trail-Gear I got my ram and lines from rocklogic.com. Much better. Looked into making my own lines with the field-serviceable fittings, but was going to be more expensive than just buying a kit and carry a complete spare line.

means are not recomended those Trail gear kits . ?

Why .. can you elaborate .?

I tapped my 80 box and it wasn't hard. I run a 1.5" ram with 8" stroke (d60) and it works great. I used a trail gear kit and remote reservoir but don't recommend them. They used the cheapest heims known to man and the weld on bracket they included was so loose I almost made my own (too lazy). The remote resevoir is über cheap aluminum with a cheap cap. However despite the crappy looking parts the tg stuff has held ok

My little bro used a complete pse set up (pump, ram, resevoir and lines ) and it is such better quality

The 80 steering box seems like a nice piece but the Oem pump is a little slow

As that thread shows- there are two sides to every story.
Still, it's weak they didn't know whether or not their 8" ram could be easily disassembled to be internally limited, and that no one mentioned to me on two seperate phone calls about returning the kit that I would be hit with a 20% fee.

If I had known about the restocking fee, I would have sold the kit to someone locally or on 'Mud and recovered more of my money while saving someone else some.

Live and learn.

Anyway, this thread isn't about marginally poor business practices, but still I can't recommend Trail-Gear.

I am really happy with my Rocklogic ram. The brackets it comes with are not as fancy as the trail-gear ones, but they do offer more flexibility. 36" lines were plenty and I bet would be for you to. They offer 48" if you think you need them.

I run a Saginaw pump modded for an extra external resevoir (in addition to the one on the pump), but otherwise stock and a very large tranny cooler. Pretty happy with this setup. I don't need more pressure right now, but I may mod the pump for more flow down the road.

You do know that the FJ40/FJ60 pumps with 2F's are different than the FJ62/Early FJ80 3FE pumps, right?

Mace is going to help me tap and rebuild my 60 series box for hydro assist. :D He doesn't know it yet so don't tell him.

not really but it does not matter .. neither will fit my 2H so in all cases I need to imagine how to fab a bracket ..

I just read in the TG site ( right not sure if I can believe in it's info ) about stock Toyota PS pumps values .. they said PS pumps run 1200 PSI and 1 GPM aprox ..

If that's true .. any other PS pump that Iv'e seen are more than 2GPM ..

Don't worry .. I don't gonna tell anything ..

Dan, what year PS box? I am more than happy :)

We need to go over the Ram location as well..

I have a later model box I'll set up for you if it works.

You can swap em out.

My box is from a 1984 FJ60.

I figured you can look at the setup and give me some ideas when I bring my rig to LV on my way to MOAB.

Right now I'm really leaning towards a PSC "Kit" after talking to the PSC guys at the King of the Hammers event. They told me what the problem was with my AGR setup and were really nice about everything.

can you share what they told you about your AGR setup . ?

I'm not running a cooler and I'm not running a remote/large enough reservior.

PSC said I would have the exact same problem with thiers if I ran it the same way I do my AGR.

Gets hot, steering is sluggish, blows fuid out the cap, howls, etc.

They hit the nail on the head..

Thanks ..

are on my plans add a larger PS cooler on Tencha and a new one on my 80 series .. the temps it's almost an issue on my setup ..

I can't add a poll to this thread .. so last question here.

Who are running their hydro assist 1.5"X6" with stock pumps .. ?

i ran hydro assist with texas offroad modded saginaw box and stock chevy pump, it never really worked that well....then i tried an agr pump and it sucked the same....then i went to full hydro with the same agr pump and it sucked still.....then i got a psc pump and it has worked freaking great every since :)

also i started using amsoil synthetic hydraulic fluid and that really helped with heat issues

i'm pretty sure that you can get a bracket that will let you bolt a chevy pump to a 2F.....$pector maybe?
