I flushed my PS using the link in the FAQ thread and decided to follow the steps from memory instead of in real time, and missed the part about not starting the truck in big capital letters. I started mine and ran the reservoir dry for maybe a second or 2, fluid was still in my drain hose so couldn't have been too long ..did I just kill the life of my pump?

After I saw it was dry I had the wife start the truck while I constantly poured fluid. Used about 3 qts flushing and final refill. Man I'm a real dummy sometimes, I've probably read that thread 100 times.

Appreciate the replies, yesterday I went out and drove in tight circles for a few minutes in both directions, then put some miles on it. Not a single sound, looks like a genius like me can't even kill a cruiser.

Today I'm flushing the coolant, hopefully I can refrain from starting the truck when it's empty.

What year?
Coolant difference 03 & later uses long life, 04 up uses supper long life. IIRC
If self mixing 50/50, mix in bucket, best to use de-mineralized water (not all distilled is).
Remember to check reservoirs level each morning and fill to cold line.

Edit:D Distillation removes all minerals from water, and Nano filtration removes most, or virtually all, minerals.

A member advised me about difference in labeling some years ago. Apparently some bottlers use the term "distilled" fairly loosely. Nanofiltration; is usually labeled as purified or filtered (but not always) and often sit right next to distilled on the store shelf. I look for bottles that state demineralized or purified by steam distillation.

I should stop putting so much emphasis on "not all distilled" and just say demineralized water.

Red (long life) is what yours calls for.

Pink is supper long life, which Toyota does state is compatible with red.

Form Toyota Parts web page:
"Super Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant
This special pink formula provides maximum protection without the use of harmful silicates. It’s extremely durable and was developed specifically to meet the requirements of your Toyota’s engine.
  • Compatibility with non-metallic materials helps it extend the life of water pump seals
  • Won’t corrode aluminum surfaces like coolants that contain borate
  • Won’t clog radiators due to silicone "gelling"
  • Pre-diluted 50/50
  • Compatible with Toyota red Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant"
My Water Pump has 165K on it so I've not wanted to change anything yet. Someday I may switch, but will triple flush with DM water to make sure all silicates are out first.
