The FAQ section offers the bare essentials for info, but does anybody reccommend a 13B-T? I like the idea of a 1HZ myself, but I'd like to find out all I can about these motors before I start calling shots.

I think its an excellant choice ,some parts unique to the 13BT are becoming scarce.
You can also get larger versions ,up to 3.8 and 4 litre with the 14B and 15B used in Toyota trucks, these were in production for a lot longer and parts are more common and are the same basic dimensions to the 13B with reinforced blocks.
.
I think these are fairly common in South America
Some info about rebuilding 13BT

Thanks for the info, though I'm having trouble loading the video.

The 1HZ it's a actual engine .. but I like and believe the turbo engines are far better producing powa .. so what do you want ..

Reliability or powa .. don't get me worng both engine have both great performance and reliability .. you can turboed the 1HZ too . .

But out the box the 13B-T can deliver more powa ..

I would also add that having owned both a 13B-T and a 12H-T, the larger engines are more versatile for the most part. I do like the 13B-T very much, but even just towing a moderately loaded military trailer behind the BJ74 became somewhat of a chore on some long grades.

I never did go through years of driving a 3B before going to the turboed Toyota diesels, so I may be a bit spoiled...but I recently did an 80 series swap and a non-turboed diesel was never in consideration. 12H-T or even better...1HD-T for your swap! :)
