With the floor panels restored, it's time to move on to setting up the suspension and restoring the frame. I wanted to ask how some of you set up your FJ60 spring swap. I'm trying to set up a spring under axle 3" lift OME FJ60 springs in a flipped configuration (long end toward the static perch). I've reversed the mount orientation in the photo and could theoretically weld it ~3.5" further down (eyelet slightly proud of the frame's end). The FJ60 leaf isn't long enough to support a comfortable shackle angle in that arrangement, but I could pursue custom length springs in the future. Otherwise I will need to reorient the mount and weld it with the opposite end flush with the end of the frame. Again, I'm curious how you guys set yours up.

My goal for all of this is to allow for a longer transmission/t-case combo. I'll be swapping to a NV4500:Atlas which adds ~7 inches. The FJ60 reversed spring might negate 4-5 inches. Would that be enough to avoid a double cardan joint and unpleasant driveshaft angle? That is my biggest worry. As always, thank you for reading and advice/feedback are very welcome.

IDK I am starting similar but going for flatter spring in S.O. I am changing to 4l60e - AA adapter - Orion TC; engine placed to allow to run conventional clutch fan. I’m thinking I’ll only tack in suspension untill I mock up drivetrain (need to buy my used or core 4L60 and AA adapter). Hopefully others have more helpful advice.

Are you going to be running the stk 6 cyldr or something else?

I am not sure what the reason is that you would want to avoid a double Cardan joint, though whether you need one will really depend on what your final driveshaft angles will be and whether those angles are causing any sort of vibration. If you have equal and opposing angles, then you may notnecessarily need a double Cardan, but if you’re planning on doing any highway driving with this Cruiser, you might be happier with a double Cardan.

I only ask because if your doing a engine swap the driveline will probably be several inches forward and might offer some more room. The stk 6cyldr might struggle with the .73 5th gear ratio.
