The time has come to do some rennovation on the beast.

My thoughts were that the valve/umbrella seals were leaking :frown: this is a new rebuild with about 3,500 miles on it...but it sat for almost 5 years with very minimal use/starting. Plus there were a few mild leaks, mostly valve covers and then I'm going TBI...YES fuel injection!!! I've gone through the wiring, cleaned things up, painted...etc etc...

So rather than trying to stand over a SOA rig on 37's and do this...hell lets just pull the engine...REPAINT to some nice colors and fix it all. I'm currently in the middle of this whole process. Just need to put the tryanny/t-case back on and put her in the rig again...then comes attaching the wiring harness...

Nice Ben. TBI !! Keep us posted. It is so nice to have a hoist to get down to the nitty-gritty and fix everything you need fixed. Are you re-wiring?

some stuff...I re-did the factory TBI harness myself...and a lot of the power wires I re-did...so hopefully that will help. Should be ready to go in within the next couple of days.
 
Lookin good Ben,
If you dont mind, it would be cool to know approximately How much$ this TBI conversion cost when all said and done.

that was friday night, saturday and a little of sunday. It's starting to get a little chilly in the morning at 9,000 plus feet :eek:

Grabbing some more parts today, hopefully the engine will be back in the rig this weekend.

I have a 35 below mummy bag that I've slept in snow-caves warm with...but the popup on the air mattress with a few blankets was CHILLY! I had my hoodie tied all the way up so my nose was the only thing sticking out :lol:
 
An air mattress is really terrible when the ground gets cold... leaches all your body heat right out! Closed-cell foam is much warmer when the temperatures plummet. And man, I'd love to try out one of those down-insulated self-inflating mats from Exped, but at over a hundred bucks, it's a tough sell. :)

agreed...the air mattresses are now ditched for foam...

Any ideas on where to get foam? Looking at king size area to cover...yeah :D King size, thats how I roll! :grinpimp:

You are 100% correct, but I found this to be less of a problem when I put down a non-water permeable layer between the tent and the ground and a layer of polar fleece between us and the bags. Besides, I don't want to carry around a big roll of foam since I tent camp and like to keep the equipment compact especially if I want to backpack with it.

Sorry if this seems like a hijack guys. ;)

There's a fabric shop on East Mulberry in Ft Collins that sells foam by the foot. Pretty good prices. You might call Verlo mattress factory in Boulder (they're on Walnut St right next to Twisted Pine Brewery), too, as I know they do a ton of foam.

Also, you can buy California King-sized 1", 2", or 3" layers of memory foam on overstock.com for ridiculously cheap right now. I'd do 2" of dense open-cell foam laminated under 1" of memory foam for a super-cush summer camping mattress. In the winter, I'd just suck it up and combine a Therm-A-Rest for cush with a closed-cell pad like a Z-Rest or a Ridge Rest for insulation.

Got some more work done this weekend. :eek: You don't realize all the little odds and ends that go into pulling a drivetrain and swapping it back in. Riddled with all sorts of mishaps, this day took longer than it should have.

broken air compresser, putting idler gear on wrong :rolleyes:, leaking tranny, missing torque wrench, freeze plug falling in, rain...lol...thankfully my friends REALLY came an helped me out huge...without them, it would still be on the garage floor.

lots left to do :cool: hook up exhaust, install O2 sensor, flare lines for clutch master/slave, put on the radiator, fan, new hoses,belts, throttle linkage, front clip, THEN install the EFI harness, ECU plug it all in and plumb the fuel lines... so a few things..:D
