So I bought a set of Profields when they first hit the market, I think I paid around $70 each. Now that I have the front axle torn apart to put in the ARB, I'm debating whether or not to put these in. I've heard some people say they are worse than stock, while others have had good luck. Any suggestions/opinions?

Thanks,
Schleb

The "1st generation" units apparrently had issues....might be worth a call to AllPro and check on their timeline and warranty. Haven't heard of problems since then tho...

So what is the best option? Profield, Newfield, Marfield, Longfield, Smurfield? Anybody got an opinion on which if any of these are the best bet...and I don't really wanna here "swap in a 60" ;) :flipoff2: A bit a a hy-jack, but thought others might be curious too?

I've yet to break my Longfields....about 18 months. I ain't easy on my rig, considering I snapped a rear pinion even with my 4-link suspension!

They will be out for the first time this weekend, front axle rebuild time. Should get a good look at them and see how my poor driving has effected them...

A guy in the Cascade Cruisers blew an All Pro birf just turning around at Lions Back. This is what my Longfield did to my inner axle shaft...

IMHO Profields suck.

Longs or smurfs are better.

Plus you get to deal with a better group of people (had to add the snide remark)

I've been running Smurfields in my FJ40 with 37's for almost a year. I'm probably not as hard on them as Woody or some others but I've given them a decent workout I think, running them through Upper Helldorado, Little Sluice, Cat Canyon etc. They've given me no problems at all. And for the money I think they're hard to beat. I didn't send in cores and bought "new" ones for $115/pr. They were used minitruck birfs that had been "smurfed".

I would definitely go with Longfields or Smurfields over the Profields from the problems I've been hearing from guys running Profields.

Sounds like Smurf or Long is the way to go. Can't speak to those as I've not run em yet, and can't continue the consistent string of Profield bashing (haven't run them either), but have broken a CV Unlimited Newfield, so probably not the best bet. They did replace it for free which is cool, but I'd rather just run something that isn't gonna go :bust2: in the first place....

wow, that's a BLOODY mess  :D

Thanks for the replies. I decided to put the stock birfs back in for now, I wonder if you can smurf profields.....As a side note, I've taken the cruiser out on two trips and have had to winch/pull:
Coil converted YJ on 35's
XJ on 33's
Cj on 33's
M715 on 38" Boggers
Anyone see a pattern here?

It really pisses them off when you drive around them as they flounder in the mud only to pull them out. Gotta love it!

Yes you can..

LT, Travis busted a stock mini birf not a profield, and when you broke your inner you were in a stupid spot. :-X :-*
