OK guys, I don't want no guff about the search feature, it ain't working. Now, about two years ago, after 24 years of outstanding service my headliner started to fall off. When it impaired my view out the windshield I gently pulled it off the rest of the way. Recently I lined the roof with the reflecto-foil bubble wrap stuff and successfully stuck it to the roof with latex contact cement. Now I want to reapply the headliner. It is the vinyl one with small perforations in it. The backside has about an 1/8" layer of foam on it. What kind of glue will adhere it to the roof. I have tried the spray on 3M contact, 777 I think, and tonight I had no success with a vinyl floor adhesive. What will work, what did the factory use? I am hoping that I don't have to remove the roof and put it upside down to get the liner back on.

Thank,
Kevin

Personally I use Weldwood contact cement. Brush a coat on each surface, wait 10 minutes, stick them together, done.

I used the 3M super 77 crap when I did my resto on my 77 FJ40......took about 2 months and the headliner was falling off. Pissed because I had the roof off when I installed it when it was easy to do, I then I had to put it back on above my head. Still turned out ok, but should have used the weldwood in the first place.

I've used that stuff on jet ski pads for years and have never had a problem. I'm sure others will have an opinion on what they have used, but this is my experience.

I've also got the refletix foil bubble wrap in the roof of my lv now held in by weldwood.

Hope this helps, Matt

after talking to a local upholstery shop, i wouldn't waste my time with "auto upholstery glues" . they said as soon as it gets mildly warm the stuff falls down. they use an industrial contact cement.

Well I used the contact cement and applied it with a roller. It was a
latex based glue from Pro-Bond that I use for pressure laminated counters and cabinets. It worked great but now I have to remove excess glue that has seeped through the perforations in the liner. I tried some thinner to no avail. It is -25C now so I won't be worrying about too soon. At least I'll have the added insulation and noise reduction for the River Shiver this weekend.
