Hi Guys, I'm new here....BTW I'm Dodo from the PHILIPPINES. I have a LC Prado 2L-TE '90 model w/c i got 2nd or 3rd hand from a friend and its originally from Japan, so its a surplus.it was converted from RHD to LHD.My problem is,wen its in idle stage, the engine tends to be unpredictable, the rpm rises up and down w/o touching the accelerator pedal and thick smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe when this happens,if its in normal mode,no thick smoke comes out. Any idea on what is the problem? thanks in advance.

"normal mode" is when the engine is idling without putting pressure on the gas pedal,or shall i say its running on its own (rpm is between 800-1000). :)

Sounds like injector pump issues. These pumps are not rebuildable - check to see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes coming up.

Do the basics first, though, like replacing the fuel and air filters and looking for obvious service issues that are not correct. Try to start any diagnostics from a "known good" condition for regular service items.

thanks guys...im having it top overhauled now coz oil goes out of the turbo, its the cylinders that is damage so im putting cylinder liners...it should be good to go in about a week from now. :)

Just finished the overhaul of my engine last week....but it seems that the maximum speed is just 60KPH, and there is a loud engine knocking.there is no power when i step on the gas pedal and the check engine bulb lights on when i start the engine and it doesn't turns off, and the turbo bulb doesn't light even if my RPM is already 3,000....help on this guys...thanks

I really hate to say this... but these engines are crap, and it's not worth putting any money into them.

If you can, fit a manual fuel pump and see how that works out. If your truck is automatic, you need the TPS hooked up.

why would you hate to state the truth?

why would you hate to state the truth?

Because SR15A2 just put a bunch of money into a big pit, and it didn't fill it up very much... and I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

understood.
it is sad to see how many of guys buy these units and then do the research.
i was chatting with a bloke just the other day that was thinking of getting a LJ78. i mentioned my impression and his response was "the guy i am buying it from says they are a good engine so that is good enough for me"
poor guy.
