What a delay,huh....

Liam- I'm flat out cheap so in translation, I bought this paint from Lowes bottom shelf spray paint. Hey, for 96 cents a can I figured I couldn't go wrong so I bought 6 or 8 cans and spray about 3 or 4 layers. I like the end result and to top it off it was in my price range.

Now for my delay, I rip the back of the top where the flap wraps around the bar and velco's to itself. I figured it was just a weak spot so it was good that it happen now instead of later.

Another factor for the delay was the rear section that bolt's to the inside of the outer most rear section did not fit and according to research here on mud this rear section is for 75' and later models. So, since I'm not a metal/fab guy I was advised/instructed by a fellow mud member to make a straight rear bar for the bimini top to wrap around.
I got the top patched on both sides on this rear flap (for additional strength) and mounted a straight bar for the rear and waula its look'n good....

Okay...
As for the canvas top fitment was a challenge for me the first time.
I bolted all the bows up by hand and worked the top on from the front to the rear. I was thinking it was going to be easy to get the top on and it was in regards to the front but the rear was about three inches shy of wrapping around and velco fasten. I figured the top would be a bite loose to fit but it seemed really tight, hence the rip in the back.
As for my second time.
I did the front section first again which is easy and this time instead of trying to stretch the top which didn't work last time I attached the rear bows with it complete unbolt. This way makes way more sense and would have saved me from the first incident. With the top completely attached to the bows all I had to do was pull the rear bows to line the middle section up and bolt them up, then pop the rear bows in the tub support attachments that secure the bows in position.

Popping them in was probably the hardest part and that took about five minutes.

hopefully this will help somebody out in the future
to be honest I've never seen anyone with a bimini top.

OK - Back to post #1......My 65 FST looks exactly the same as the OP post.....D shaped....

I got bows from a '69 hardtop model yesterday....the bows stop about an inch from seating all the way down.....

Just to make sure - I am to cut the bows to fit, not mod the tub....Yes????

Unless I pull out my hair, give away my kids and get a divorce I'm going to put on an OCD top.....Otherwise, I'll hit up Alex.....It really could go either way over the next couple months...(new house, moving, etc....)

Ugh yeah moving is a pain man.
Hope that all goes well.

On the bright side those bows look great on your FST man.
Nice addition!
