been having death wobbles at about 28-35 mph for the last few months. just rebuilt the engine, so hadn't been on it for a while. mechanic who checked out my rebuild said he thought I needed a new front end. However, just rotated tires, back to front and crossed them, and the wobbles are gone. What should I do now? balanced, aligned? just get new tires? I'm running pro-comp 33's. Very soft tire for this engine.

any suggestions?

1. Did ya study wear patterns on tires before the rotation ? That could give ya some insight . . .

2. Had pro-comp 35x12.50s on my 60, lasted over 35K miles
BUT were very (very) 'toe' sensitive, took awhile to finally get the toe in-out 'just right'.

3. however, they got 'lumpy' , swapped just after 35K miles, had fair tread left :-) I put rig on rack, spun tires ,,,,man you could see the out-a-round....I think that's what caused my wobble (not quite death, but...) that I could drive thru,,,,but was always 'tire noisey'.

Thanks for the replies. I just did it this morning, I'm not sure how to study wear patterns. What would I look for?

If they are directional tread tires, meaning they have arrows showing the required rotation direction,(like a tractor tire) then front to rear is the only way you can rotate them.

to get proper wear on a tire with outside "lugs" that is not specified "directional"by the manufactorer, I've always been told you need to cross rotate to even out wear patterns, if you wait to long, like 6+k miles then you are screwed, it's hard to correct a really bad wear pattern once it gets going. I've been cross roatating my BFG MTs and they are even all around after aprox 1/2 tread gone (5years)mostly snow and pavement use.

Most ATs are okay to go front to rear, if a bad wear pattern starts up on a $150 tire I'm going to look for why and fix it.
