Heat gun and peel the film, Scrape or goo-gone off the glue if it's after market. The factory stuff I think I don't think is film, might be tinted glass:meh:

Well I always thought it was in the glass also but I got a truck that someone a sticker it looks to be on the inside of the rear window and they pulled it off and it took the tint with it so there has to be a way

Get one of those razor blade decal/sticker scrapers and a package of spare blades and go to town:grinpimp:

Ask around at any of your local tint shops, they probably know good ways to remove. Or if you re-tint, they'll usually strip off the old. They may charge you extra, I know the OEM tint is a PITA to get off compared to the standard film stuff.

on my factory glass, it seems like the glass itself is tinted. When i touch the edge of the glass, i feel no seam or edge. could i be wrong? i have an 03.

If I'm not mistaken, all the windows (except driver+passenger up front) are factory tinted glass. Aftermarket tint most tint shops will remove for little to nothing if you're getting them retinted. Otherwise, ammonia is good for removing it (that's why tint shops always tell you to not clean your windows with it-it peels off tint). Once you start peeling the tint off, keep it wet with ammonia to assist in pulling off in one large sheet. But, be sure to cover anything that the ammonia will harm and to clean the window thoroughly afterwards.

This is the stock tint what I'm wondering is how the sticker took the tint off. If the tint is in the glass, you run your fingernail across the part that came off with the sticker and you can kinda feel an edge

then is not stock tint...may have been put on at dealership but stock is in the glass...if it was removable a bunch of us would have taken it off when we tinted ours to be rid of the bronze tint.

as bronze is much harder to find and match up nowadays....everything uses grey.

There is no aftermarket tint on this truck i had it looked at but I gotta man I know what your saying but I have 1999 Lc and in the back window at the bottom in the center someone before me that had the truck had an "A" sticker for the university of alabama I would assume... it looks to be was inside the window but the dealer that I bought from took it off and it took the tint with it! I'll upload a pic if I can get a good pic of it ,I have out sticker covering it because you can notice it

even with the brownish glass tint you can just put a black window tint right over it right? or would that look funny

I have double 5% on the back windows and it looks fine. It doesn't match the 5% on the front but :meh:

FYI: The tint is IN the glass. You cannot strip the windows. The only way to get the non-mirrored finished is to replace the glass with 04+ (year?)

That dealer probably damaged your rear window defrost......

Oh no if u scratch it from the inside of your truck you will see it's not on inside of the glass - fact

Then you either:

Have a rare 100 series that came without privacy glass, and the PO tinted it himself,

OR

There is additional tint placed over the rear privacy glass.

Any film on the windows did not come from Toyota. They use solar tint glass that has the bronze coloring cast into it (as mentioned earlier).

Either way, the film is aftermarket. Remove and replace. Done.

except that the aftermarket goes on inside and if you have factory bronze it will be on top...so in sunlight you will see a brownish haze on top of the glass and the PS and DS windows will look normal gray...so they wont match.

Just get the Llumar Bronze ATR like I did.....Mr Tint has rolls of it here in SC.

If you have rear defrost on your 99 like I have on my 2001, you need to proceed with caution!

These guys are telling you that the "factory" tint is built in the glass. I agree and there is no way to damage the "factory" bronze tint because it is "in" the glass, not "on top" of the glass.

There is the little gold pinstripe looking things that are your defrost. You can definitely screw this up if you scrape with a razor blade on the inside of the back glass. You can tell that these little gold stripes are applied to the glass, NOT "in" the glass.

I may be reading what you are asking completely wrong and my advice may be way off. I am just concerned that you are going to take one of those blades to the inside of your rear hatch glass.
