Hello all, I am a noob to the 100 series world. I have owned a 60, 62 and currently a 1994 80. I'm thinking of purchasing a 100 for the V8 and smoother ride and keeping the 94 for camping/wheeling.

I came across a local 1998 with 99K and diff lock for 17K. This price did not seem completely out of line but thought I would ask the people in the know. What do you think? Offer 15K cash? I am going to test drive this afternoon. Thanks.

Also the owner indicated that he is the original owner and dealer has maintained it since new.

Anything specific I should be looking at this afternoon? Thanks.

I paid 23K for my 98 about 2 years ago with 49K on the clock, now has 91K with no problems.
Prices have definitely come down lately, but if the truck is OK the $17K sound about right to me, anything under that even better.
Check if the 90K service was done, specifically timing belt and water pump, will cost about $600 to have it done at the dealer, might help you to negotiate.
Let us know the final outcome.

I paid $14,700 for my 98 with 130k on the clock, one owner, service records, etc.
Sounds good to me if it's straight and doesn't show any signs of accidents or heavy abuse. Book it out on KBB using "Private party value" and then "Trade In Value", then split the difference and see if he goes for it. I looked for a while before I found a nice unit with the diff lock. It's nice to have if you really think you're going to do any wheeling with it.

The owner said the timing belt was changed at 90K. KBB states $15,310 in "good" condition. Hmmmm...very tempting. I will keep you all informed. Thanks!

$17K seems a bit high. I just finished the buying process ('01, 84K for $21.6K). I came across some 99 models with lower miles for about the same. They were supposedly 2-owner/great shape and all that, but you can't tell from a conversation... and some of the "excellent" vehicles I looked at were really run-out.

Anyway, nothing beats your own inspection. Look carefully for the little things that only matter to the transaction - little rust spots, dents in the roof, all that. If it's 1-owner, in great shape, gently used and all the records -- well, it's probably a fair price.

Best of luck!

I just purchased a 98'(jade mica) w/77k on the clock.Front/rear brushguards, Alpine head unit and disc changer.Great condition.
Paid $ 17,500. Had It for about 3 weeks.Awesome rig!!!:)

I got mine 98 with 115K on it. Previous owner asked $16K and I paid $13500 for it. Even a bit of worn on the front seats but 90K svc and t-belt done. I Love My Cruiser!!! .

Just for the record, I did NOT sponsor the link in my above comments for the '06 Suzuki Forenza.

My $0.02: That's silly, linking a TLC site to new Suzukis. Different markets, different buyers.

If you buy a silver star that crap goes away.

About the vehicle...buy it if you want it. You may not find another as nice..

I bought my 99 for around $20K about 6 months ago. AZ. LC with 58K miles, silver, rear lockers, rear air. I then spent a couple of $K on it. All new tires, (all) belts, (all) hoses, (all) fluids (synthetic where posible), water pump, timing belt. wheel bearing repacked. Kind of feel like its a new LC now and that it is good for 250K+ miles with just normal maintance. I have a new one for $22K versus buying a new one for $60K

Thats alot of miles for $15,000 - ok $17,000 way too much, I've seen 2000 +'s for that price
Here's one with 75K - looks like It'll go for under $15k ?

There is a black 98 in the Raleigh, NC paper for 13k with 135k miles.

Just a reference point.
