STILL thinking of getting an LC--this time a bit newer and nicer. Found a clean '99 with basically every option. 94K miles--asking 17,900--should probably sell for 17.2-17.5. Color is white, tan leather. It was a local, one owner car--traded for a new LC. Suggestions?

Has the full 90k service been done? FYI: I paid $22,500 in January '05 for mine which then had 69k on it...

One more thing: After having done all my own mods and maintenance since getting mine you might want to crawl under the one you're looking at to see how much rust is present. FYI: I never say never (usually) but I am safe saying I will NEVER get another vehicle from the rust belt/rust coast. Everytime you touch a bolt or whatever underneath it will add HOURS to whatever it is you will do...drilling broken bolts/studs and then tapping...

Not sure about the 90k service. What all does that entail, and $$$? I looked uop under it--no rust I can see. It is a locally purchased an operated vehicle from Charleston SC, and the rust here isn't horrible..unless you drive it into the ocean.

You want to "see" a work order that the timing belt and water pump was changed. Doubt previous owner did it, major service and they traded instead of spending the $$'s to do this. If it is at a local Toyota/Lexus dealer make the new timing belt and new water pump part of the deal.

99 Sales story for your consideration. I bought my 99 in April of 05 with 89,000 miles. It has the diff lock, 3rd row, tow package, wood everywhere, no 90,000 mile service, but fresh pad's and rotors and a full dealership service history. It only set me back 16,700 + an 88 Jeep Wrangler that barely ran. With these fuel prices, I would think they would really want to move the iron. I just had one of those Capital One blank checks that was only good for 16k and it said that on the check so they knew that I was wasn't full of it. I also dressed way down, like holy shorts and a dirty old t-shirt with flip flops. I can't imagine having to walk out on that deal, that would have been tough but that is all I had. Good luck!

Looks like a deal if the 90k has been done. If it hasn't then I'd say some dealing is in order.

I agree...stay away from 100's from the east if you plan to do any mods......Almost impossible to remove bolts....You'll head out to the garage to remove skid plate and three days later still be drilling out the broken studs and retapping the holes...two words
RUST SUCKS!!

Inspect the known problem areas

- cracked manifolds
- trailer wiring (TSB)
- Check for a new battery or other signs of recent electrical work
- Check for flood damage
- Did the dealer do all the maintnence? do they have the records?
- Ask how many keys they have and how many are masters

I doubt that the Timing belt has been changed. This is really not that expensive. Coupons from my dealership often advertise TBs for $325 on V8s. But lots of people want to replace everything under the sun when they do the service.

Open the hood, look for a sticker to see if the belt was done (or just ask the local dealership for any info). I would say low 17,000 for it if the belt has been done. Good Luck.
