Hello,

I'm an 80 series nut looking to add to the fleet. I've finally found a 100 I like and am close to pulling the trigger. Being somewhat unfamiliar with 100s (I've driven them and read a lot about them, but never wheeled or worked on one), I'm requesting some muducation.

-2006
-low 100k miles
-white
-1 owner
-no accidents
-southern truck it's whole life
-t belt and water pump done
-not optioned with AHC
-ABS module and brake booster just replaced
-newish tires
-nav
-small scratches and dings commensurate with age/miles
-mild hail dings between top of windshield and moonroof
-overall clean vehicle

It's out of state, so thoughts on price are extra important to me. I have a friend checking it out for me in the am.

Thank you in advance,
Matt

If it doesn't need a lot of repair and maintenance, I'd say $20k is in the ballpark. I personally would negotiate down with the hail damage, might be harder for you to sell later if it's not an easy fix. Hard to believe someone didn't file a hail claim on a 2006 LC.

The dealer retail average of Edmunds, KBB and NADA shows $22.5. That sounds too high? $20k seems low based on what's out there. Granted, we don't see actual sold prices.

Good thing you aren't in the Pacific Northwest. 06-07 in great shape here are fetching high 20's to 30k. I just bought a 2006 white with 92k on it and the bank valued it at $25.5. If you can get 06's for 20 you should start bringing them here and turning a profit.

For an '06 with no accidents, a fresh timing belt and lower miles, $22k sounds like a fair price given other LCs listed on cars and autotrader. You can find them at $20k or lower, but they have significantly more mileage. The hail damage should bring the price down a bit though.

If the color is what you want and you're specifically looking for a no-AHC '06, I'd likely go for it assuming it runs and drives well. For comparison, my '06 (1 owner, no-AHC, no wood trim, no rear DVD, 91k, needed a tb) was purchased at ~$24 from a GM dealer in KS last summer.

Good luck

I got some clearer pics from my friend who looked at it this morning for me. It's quite nice. The hail damage is very minor and is only on the section between the top of the windshield and the leading edge of the moonroof. There are some moderate blemishes on the bottom most portion of the front bumper, and light scratches on the rear bumper above the tow hitch. The top of the steering wheel has some light wear that cannot be addressed with leather products, the wood grain kit on the console has mild spotting near the t case lever. That's essentially picking it apart. Drives great with zero issues. Diffs and t case recently serviced, plus, as mentioned, t belt, water pump, brake booster and abs module.

I'm at $22.5 and the seller is at $23k. Someone else is driving it right now.

$23k is more than fair with the condition description and the recent maintenance... Especially for a non AHC truck

P.S. If you ever see one of these trucks without any paint damage to the stock bumpers that means they've been just repainted. :)

Well, ya snooze, ya lose. He sold it to the other person who was looking at it, even though he agreed to call me before doing so. I'm not happy about it, but I also can't blame him. He got $23.5 for it. I did find out it was in a minor accident and had some paint work done on the drivers rear quarter.

There will be another one. I hope.

Thanks for the input, everyone. The search continues.

There are a few on CL here and in Dallas ..... lot's to be said for a TX truck for lack of rust....happy to check any out local to me.

I really appreciate that. I regularly check craigslist throughout Texas and will reach out to you if something catches my eye in Houston.

Don't let a $500 difference hold you back when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. Especially when it comes to Land Cruisers & LXs, as soon as you find the right one, if its in your budget just buy it.

Any particular color or year/ combo ?

E
2006/7, non AHC (not a deal breaker), rust-free undercarriage, no accident history, documented maintenance, 1 or 2 owners (also not a deal breaker), less than 120k, preferably black, silver or white.

I saw a white '06 in Pearland that I may inquire on.

I learned my lesson!

That sounded like a deal, even at 23.5k.

Good luck with your search, you're going to prefer the 100 to the 80 for everything but tough wheeling!

Yeah, kinda what I'm realizing more and more. I found another one I'll be calling on tomorrow. We shall see...

I spent a year and a half finding the right 80. Hopefully this won't take as long.

And, I'm sure you're right--100s are a much more refined ride. Apples to oranges. I love 'em all!

Here's a shot of my 80.

Good luck with your search! As a fellow 80 and 100 owner, you will like the 100 exponentially more as a DD. That's the whole reason I upgraded to the 100 in the first place; I needed something more road-friendly and comfortable as my DD, but I didn't want to leave the LC family. I still have the 80, but it's my weekend beater toy now. It's nice to have both.
