How does one remove and then, more importantly, reinstall a press on type crank pulley? has anyone successfully done this diy style?

Used this to pull it
1917710

And a rubber impact mallet to pound it back on

Two 10mm x 1.25 holes in the balancer, one on either side of the center hole. Any commercial puller with a 10mm bolt set in it should do it.

On my '68, it had been off several times before I owned it (PO blew up the engine twice with a Delco dizzy!) and the pulley fell off about a year after I installed it on the re-re-rebuilt engine. I was not satisfied with the press fit (heat pulley in oven, cool tip of crank with CO2) so I drilled the crank to accept a 7/16 x 20 SBC crank bolt and milled the claw face off the pulley.

Permanent solution.
