We're taking the little one (1.5 years old) camping this weekend to test her out again. We were going to go back up to the lakes around Munds Park, but it will barely be 40 degrees- a little too cold for her.

So, the temperatures around Prescott will be about perfect. No too hot during the day and about 55 at night.

Anyone know if there is good dispersed camping around one of the lakes? I was thinking maybe around Lynx lake? Any forest roads that we can find a good open spot?

Howdy! Spent a lot of time camping both in Lynx Lake Campgrounds and south of there in the boonies. If you go about 1/2 - 1 mile south of the second campground, there is a track to the left that is 2wd passable. It used to have a sign that it was for non-motorized prospecting on Lynx Creek. There were dozens of primative camp sites scattered all over the NF out there. Used to be lots of skunks in the formal campgrounds, but not in the primative ones. Old trick that worked for me is to take a couple of boxes of moth balls and make a circle around your campsite with them. Second(dirty) trick is to slice up small bits of apple and make a trail for them to follow to someone else's camp!! Hint: police your campsite very well, and keep all food and garbage in your vehicle after dark. I have pictures of two yound skunks crawling into my garbage bag and having a fight over whatever food they both wanted for supper!! That was funnier than two cats in a gunney sack. John

Thanks for the tip (and the skunk advice!)

I'll give that a whirl~ I figured if we looked around we could find something outside of the campgrounds.

I've only passed through Prescott and haven't camped in the area, so this will be nice.

you could go to the camp grounds at granite basin lake or if you want something more remote go to alto pit and turn left into the neigbor hood on the left just before alto pit, follow that road all the way back where you hit unmaintained road, tons of beautiful camp spots up there and a killer view.

We went to the FR on the left about a mile and a half past the south Lnx lake entrance and found the last spot that you can camp. It was big and by itself which was nice although very "hill-y" and was hard to get level spots.

We had two 1.5 year olds with us and they had a good old time. We went over to the lake and piddled around even though it's not very swim or kid friendly. The shoreline is pretty rocky. Looked like there was some good fishing though.

The only problem we had was getting the little ones to bed. They both were much too excited to sleep.

I'll post pics of the Cruiser "pop-up" shortly.

So, I built a platform with 12 inches underneath to store all of the camping gear and it still leaves room for the dog bed (and dog) on top as well as the cooler and food bin. Momma and baby ride in the backseats and watch DVD's for the drive.

Then, when it's time to set up camp, I fold the back seats forward and take out the extensions (also stored under the platform) - air up the queen mattress, throw down the flannel sheets and blankets and that = Comfy sleeping.

With the SUV tent set up on back it leaves the tailgate room and lets air circulate.

Notice my "red-neck" leveling job in the last few~ Had to drive up on 2 different sized tree limbs :D
