Hi all,

I'm about to join the cruiser world! I'm finishing the details on the purchase of a 2003 LC, that has been well cared for, but lacking the 90k service, and is at 123k.

In preparation, I figured that I could save a few $$$ by leaning on your knowledge, and of course non-dealer affiliated part wholesalers.

I've compiled my list and plan to purchase through Toyota Parts Zone since it all seems very reasonable.

My list includes:
- Timing belt
- Water pump
- Serpentine Belt
- Iridium Plugs
- Thermostat & Gasket
- Fuel Filter

I figure that given the mileage, and since it will all be torn apart, I'd go ahead and replace the starter now, instead of at 210k miles.

Anyone have input on this, or suggest anything else while I'm at it?

Thanks in advance!

I would pass on the starter until necessary. I'm sure the 100 is like the 80 and you get plenty of warning signs before it dies completely.

As for the parts, I would recommend you call Onar (beno here on MUD) at American Toyota and compare prices. Onar knows Land Cruisers extremely well, calling him with simply the job at hand will yield all the parts you will need to complete. I used him for my recent front axle rebuild and wheel bearing service and was very happy.

Agreed. I got a starter and whatever gasket is necessary from Onar (Beno) for around $200. The starter and the 90k service don't overlap, but at 122k miles replacing the starter is overkill but not a bad idea. I'm replacing mine preventatively next weekend and I only have 90.5k. It seems like some of these 100 starters go between 80-130k (no personal experience with that problem). But do show warning signs before dying.

If you call up CDan, he's familiar with all the while you're in there 90k service items and can get you a good price.

Onur is no longer at toyota. See his sig for more details. He told me to call cdan now for my oe parts(505-998-0173].

Bummer! I just checked his sig and you are correct, Onar is over at Proffitt's in Utah now.

Cdan will hook you up just the same. I've used both in the past with excellent results.

Or any of the other great vendors on this site! (Like me :D)

I would def not mess with the starter unless it acts up. It's below the intake and really a pain to change. Plus, they don't go bad often in my experience.

I'd wait for the starter to die. I have a 2000 and it wasn't turning over, which was a good warning sign that the starter was going -- and it did, at 70k. A little pre-mature, but it happens....So just wait, you're at 123k and it's still fine.
