This is a fork of this thread: Pre 03 Factory NAV to Double Din, Climate Knobs Conversion?

Now that a few 100s have found their way into salvage yards, it's just a matter of finding a yard who is willing to remove the dash harness. I found a few bezels with non-nav AC amps on eBay for $300. Car-Part.com found me one for $150 and it is in perfect condition.

They said the LX470's wiring was intact and they offered the pigtails for $30. Instead, I requested for the complete harness and they wanted $250 for it. This beats buying one new for $1200. Not having to hunt for wires is probably worth an additional $220. Although you might prefer to rewire over swapping over a complete dash harness, you can enjoy your 100 any way you prefer. I'm just here to hopefully save you a few hundred bucks.

For now, I'll leave a few pictures of the kit ...

100% perfect and it cleaned up really well

Here is the complete dash harness. It also came with a complete Clifford 50.5x 2-way alarm intact which I removed.

The four on the left go to the AC amp. I know from the pictures the salvage yard sent me that it came with a Kenwood double-DIN HU. Is the plug on the right for the head unit? I wonder why it's hacked, maybe it was to bypass the factory amp?

I assume the main bundle is the ignition wiring, because that's where the Clifford alarm connected to. The wire bundle to the right, anyone know what it is?

We've been getting a decent amount of rain in the Houston area. I'll update this with progress when the weather allows and when I can find an FSM.

documentation folder for my own research, and if you want to tackle this yourself

  • audio system INSP
  • audio system LOCA
  • audio vidual telematics - navigation
  • audio vidual telematics - radio and player
  • electrical wiring routing - component location
  • electrical wiring routing - connector ground and splice location
  • instrument panel (dashboard) COMP
  • instrument panel (dashboard) INST
  • instrument panel (dashboard) REMO
  • navigation TERECU

Very interesting project.
Those of us with NAVs need to follow your journey to get prepared :-)
BTW, does that Harness require complete Dash Removal or can it be done by removing
lower panels?

I'm thinking complete dash removal, which according to the instructions on the FSM requires removing the steering wheel. I'll be sure to document my findings

I've abandoned this project and will be tapping into wires like the others.

Several plugs on the non-navi harness were not the same. After carefully tagging each one I then compared pinouts and wire colors. It isn't a simple de-pinning / re-pinning, as Toyota did a few plugs with completely different wire colors. Rather than modifying the non-nav harness to be compatible with my original nav LX470, it makes more sense to put the nav harness back in and simply adding the manual climate control pigtails. $220 failure on my part, but at least I tried.

Oh by the way, I couldn't get the LX started for several days and I was going crazy trying to diagnose the problem. The starter would crank, but the engine wouldn't start ... For the longest time I thought it was immobilizer problems, because that's how the new unprogrammed key acted. But the security light turned off when the key was inserted so I did more troubleshooting. I pulled a coilpack, removed a spark plug, and connected the plug body to ground while my son cranked the engine. Sure enough there was spark. Then in desperation I removed the outlet hose from the fuel filter and had my son put it to ON and then tried to crank it up. No fuel. Hmm.

I read on one of the threads here on IH8mud about an emergency fuel cutoff switch. I didn't see it because it was hidden behind some carpet. Now it's working :) What's the emergency fuel cutoff for, for accidents and rollovers?

Anyhow, I'm stopping the progress on this thread and I'll just post pictures of my new audio system once I'm done.

Now you done piqued my curiosity. Where exactly is the Emergency Cutoff Switch????

On a LHD vehicle, look to the right of the throttle pedal, mounted against the transmission tunnel. It is a black box with a yellow button. It could be partially hidden with the carpet. I'll try to take a picture of it after the interior gets a thorough cleaning. The previous owner was such a freaking slob, he/she/it spilled soda and it got into places that were previously uncleanable.
