My power steering is still working fine and isn't leaking but the pulley is wobbly and noisy. Can you just replace the shaft bearing to cure this or does the whole power steering unit need to be rebuilt or replaced?

Power steering pump disassembly is pretty complicated and from the exploded view there doesn't seem to be a bearing, just a bushing and oil seal. The pulley is held onto the shaft using a woodruff key and a bolt. Make sure that the woodruff key is still intact, the slot in the pump shaft is not messed up and that the bolt is tight. If this has been going on for a while you could need a new pulley, not a new pump. If the bushing were so bad to allow noticable wobble, I would expect that you would be leaking fluid.

I'd put money on the fact that it's a worn pulley. Be sure to replace it before you lose the woodruff key. Getting the pully off when it's free-spinning on the shaft is a bitch.

Go GM Saginaw, you won't regret it.

I pulled the pulley off and the woodruff key is sheared and the slot of the shaft where the key resides is worn on the spindle and the pulley.

So the woodruff key is destroyed and the pulley and shaft are worn. How hard is it to get a replacement key? It still might wobble but it couldn't get much worse.

I put it back together and my conclusion is that the shaft where the key sits is so chewed up that I will need to replace the pump. The pulley is also screwed up and will need to be replaced. All this is going to be expensive so maybe I should just convert to Saginaw. Do you really just need to buy the bracket from manafre and get a gm pump and all the hoses fit? They pulley they sell is pricey. I'm not sure what to do but I don't want to spend a ton of cash.

What is the best source for the mounting bracket and wide pulley for the saginaw pump?

Go to Man-A-Fre, they have the bracket, the pulley. The pump, go to NAPA, Autozone or any auto parts store that sells GM pumps. Check if they sell them with lifetime warranty.

What about JT Outfitters, they have the bracket and the conversion line for a little cheaper. Is there any other source for the pulley other than manafre? I read a post that IPOR sold them but they aren't on the website.

The wide pulley requires a saginaw pump with a key type shaft. Anyone know which one this is?

I just changed my mind and bought all new toyota parts, not that much more in the end.
Thanks
