I just bought a 95 FZJ80. There is a clicking sound that the guy I purchased it from said that the power steering pump was just replaced and the noise is from that. He said that the pump is driven by the timeing chain and it was not properly installed and that was why you hear the noise.

Does this sound correct? If so what can be done to eliminate the noise.

Any help is appreciated.

No.

The pump is driven by a gear. The timing chain is not involved.

Is the tick syncronized with engine speed. Ie does it get faster with higher revs? I would look carefully at the gear on the pump and the gear inside the motor. You might have to look at the gear inside with a mirror or feel it with you finger as someone else slowly turns the engine over.

Are you certain it's the power steering pump? Lots of thinks can sound like a click, even an exhaust leak.

Get a mechanics stethescope and isolate where the noise is really coming from.

I am not positive that it is the power steering pump, but I am sure that it is not an exhaust leak. I will try your suggestion and isolate the noise. Thank you very much for the information.
