Hi,

I am pretty tired of the original antenna. It's always at the place where the mast base attaches to the fender. One day I decided to tighten it, removed the cawl, but still couldn't access it.
1. Do you know how to secure it ?
2. Any way to install the power antenna similar to 62 series or some earlier Toyota Camry (83,94)?

Thanks,
Alex

I replaced my 70 antenna a few months back with a new OEM one. As I recall it was a tight fit to get my hand in there. But a new OEM antenna is great.. I like the stock location because I can reach my hand out the window and put it up or down.. and with it angled back at the same angle of the windshield it doesn't get fubar'd wheeling like 40 or 60 antennas.. unless your going in reverse.

I think you need to get your hand in the fender via hood for the 1 bolt in there... hth

I haven't done one yet, but advice I was given if replacing it is to tie a piece of string to the old one when removing it, so you can use that piece of string to pull thru the new one ;)

As for power antennae, as there is little room for your hands, it will be difficult to mount the motor.

There is a bolt under the bottom of the antenna and it is a bit of a pain to get at. That and the four dimple nut at the top is all that holds it in. There is a lot of room inside the fender where it mounts and I have often thought of putting a power unit in.

Toyota lists a power antenna as standard on the KZJ78 but not on any other 70 series. The KZJ unit will be 12 volt. Price is about $120 as of four years ago when I asked. I would want to see the mounting point on the KZJ before I leap into buying one.

Lack of time and other things to do that rate higher have held me back.
