Hey guys, my name is Jeremy and I am out of a small town called Pulaski, VA. I moved here about a year ago from Jacksonville, FL and I operated a $40,000 batch powder coating setup. I use to do my own R&D on new products coming out and also as well as figuring out what it took to operate efficiently but produce quality products. As of now, I am slowly moving up into powder coating again and have a small set up mostly used to handle parts up to 18" cubed. I use chemicals to pretreat the metal and aluminum that I powder coat to make sure proper adhesion is always made to ensure the powder coat holds up to its true weathering properties. As I said, I'm pretty limited right now but I am also in the process of acquiring a blast cabinet instead of mechanical stripping stuff before I coat. I try to serve the offroad community with a not only durable but affordable prices. I mainly deal with Tiger Drylac and Spraylat for my powder needs because they offer great, durable powder and awesome customer service. I am doing a set of wheels from a friends 90 4runner tomorrow in satin black and I will post up pics to show you guys my product. Usually, if it doesn't look right to me, then it WILL NOT go out the door. I do not believe in crappy work ethics just to make a buck. The items will be redone at my expense...so here are a few color samples and a few things like 3VZE intake pipes I have done for a supplier in Roanoke. Hope you guys like them and I hope to talk to you soon!

That's cool. I have been trying to find someone to do some powder coating for me around here with little luck. I've found lots of people saying they can do it but after seeing their work, I keep deciding to wait.

I want to get a full set of wheels done in black on a 80 series and 100 series Cruiser.

Any idea what would that run me at your shop? How long would it take? I am not too far away.

Hey thanks for looking and checking with me.

Theres alot of people out there who just blast and powder coat...and some say it looks good...thats great, but what is underneath is what counts.

As far as having these rims done....I would be at the shop until I had every one of them done within the same day. I can stick to a same day turnaround at the moment because I have no business coming in. If you were to bring me 8 rims total...and thats based on the info you gave me...then I would charge $20/rim since you have so many. Does that sound fair? I usually charge around $30-$35/rim because of the cost of powder + the chemicals I have to use to pretreat them.

If you have no problem with traveling here and staying for the day to maybe watch me do them....I have no problem with that. This way shipping charges don't kill ya. I use great powder too so there is no question about weatherability and durability.

If this sounds good to you then get back with me and I will be more than happy to do them....and if its on a weekend then that is fine too. Whenever you have the time is good with me :)

Just a little durability testing I was doing one day after work....this is silver vein powder over a sample chip and I commenced to beating with a pickle fork...the hammer was at the shop :D

Hey Jeremy,

I am being told the same thing - that you have exceeded your PM quota.

Cool, e-mail on the way.

You can increase your PM limit to 500 by buying a star. There are other advantages, too.

That way you also support Woody and this killer site.

I'll have to do that once I get some more cash on hand...running kinda low since I just sunk everything into this business. It definately will be my next move on here. You guys support me then I'll return the favor

A guy came up from Roanoke today and I did 2 of his rims because of time restrictions on the tire places around here. I had to strip the insides of the slots in the rims and the middles. He wanted satin black so thats what he got!

Understood. If we can get this job worked out for my 10 rims, you'll be set for the $20 star!! :D

Got your e-mail, will send you some pictures. They are just the stock rims from the 80 and 100.

No doubt!

Yesterday took a little longer than expected for prepping those 2 rims he brought me. This is why I need some pics from ya...would hate for you to make a trip up here and something extra have to be done to the rims and I wouldn't get them done in one day. I think the longest part was getting the rim up to temp to cook the powder! That aluminum from yesterdays rims just soaked it up. I'm not very familiar with LC's but I'm willing to learn about them.

Just looking for some input guys on stock colors to carry on hand that way I won't have to order everytime I get an order and have to wait on the powder to get in. So as of right now I carry a glossy black and satin black. I know I need to order a clear coat but what would you guys prefer? They have a glossy, semi-gloss, and matte finish clear coat. Do you guys think you would want a mirror black that has a super high gloss? How about a transparent black? Any other colors, just let me know. I also keep chrome powder on hand just for a transparent topcoat if wanted sometimes.

Consider a medium gray like stock landcruiser wheels. Resto guys like that color for their wheels and rollbars for the post 1979 cruisers. Another color that might have lots of application in the resto world is pewter:

Best of luck in your business. Too bad you are on the opposite side of the country.
