I've not found much on CB installs in the 2Hundy section.

Post up what you done. Pics, CB model, antenna, wire routing, advice, do's, don'ts, etc.

I love pics, so be generous with the pics!

:)

I went with one of these Uniden 8080NB units.

The unit has all controls and speaker on the mic and allows for two Cat 5 jack inputs so you can have two speaker/mics head units located remotely. (Best feature on this unit is the automatic record and play back function of last 30 secs - in case you miss a call.)

I hid the unit body out of the way up in the passenger side foot well beneath the glove box - in my case that's on the LHS. I ran one of the jack points up inside the center cup holder tensioning 'widget' that secures your coffee cups. The widget slides down over it when I don't have the speaker/mic plugged in so you would never know its there unless you lifted the widget out. I have found on the trail that when plugged it the cupholder recess makes for a great location for the mic to rest, easy to get to and not hanging in the way up front. In fact there's not much useful real estate on the front dash where a mic can be conveniently and tidily mounted in my view. Most look clumsy and messy.

I'm still a little undecided about the location of the second flush mounted jack point but if I do get around to installing it I thinking its going here .

I ran the aerial coax cable through the firewall grommet on LHS and mounted the aerial on bull bar. I have taken an always-on power source from my house battery in the rear so I can operate the radio at the camp site without having to turn on the ignition. Just got to be sure to turn it off - but they draw bugger-all in stand by mode and would last for weeks if I forget, so not worried.

How did you manage to wear all the color off of your shifter? Do you rest a hand on it while you drive?.?

I'm a builder - with hard and calloused hands I guess. Actually I do have a spare unmarked one along with a few of the other silver door handle trims but leave the old ones on when on an off road adventure. Since you ask I must say the painted and faux wood trims in the 200 a bloody soft and easily scratched. Luckily you can get replacements cheaply.

The reason I ask is more because it's an automatic, so there isn't much reason to hold on to it. As a long time manual shifter, it took me a while before I stopped habitually keeping my hand on the shifter in my 100... :) Just curious if perhaps the same happened with you. ;)

Rigger, I have a 70's looking, 80's era Radio Shack CB that used to see a lot of use when I traveled. The last vehicle it was in was my 1990 4-Runner, but I never found a good spot for it in my 80. I was thinking about your post last night as the 200 seems to have even fewer spots than the 80 to mount that type of accessory.

Billfish beat me to it, a remote or all in one CB would be the way to go. I like the idea of the plug in location in front of the shifter, and the padded spot in front of the ashtray to lay the hand piece.

FWIW, in the 80 section they seem to really love the HAM Radio vs. the CB.

100 section too, but I have found that it is specific to location. I still run a CB in my 100 because most of the guys here have them vs. the HAM radio. I do have my study book though and need to get my license.

went through the same debate a couple weeks ago...check out slee's 200 build. he installed a CB and HAM in center console for a customer. as usual it came out beautifully.

I'm also curious about antenna and mount options for those who don't have aftermarket bumpers.
