I just finished up my 90k service on my 2006 LX, and I am throwing P0016 and P0018 engine codes. I completed my service with the 2004 FSM (along with some helpful tips from others that had done VVT timing belt replacements) but the 2004 FSM does not list the P0016 or P0018 codes as I believe they are specific to the 2006+ VVT engine.
Can someone with a FSM for a VVT engine take a look and post what those codes mean? I did some googling, but I would like to see what the actual book says if possible.
The truck is running very well, and is not showing any signs of issues other than the CEL. When the truck is first started, the light is not illuminated. The codes can be found as pending codes (via Scangauge II), but when I start driving, the CEL will come on.
If I clear the codes, the CEL will remain off until the engine is restarted and driven again. The codes will be stored as pending, but do not trigger the CEL until restarted. Occasionally, I can clear the pending P0016 code, but the P0018 code does not want to be cleared out of pending.
I have checked the connections on my crank and cam position sensors, and have reconnected them with dielectric grease to ensure a good connection. That does not seem to have helped my situation. My understanding is that a disconnected or faulty crank or cam sensor will prevent the truck from running, or at least running well.
Has anyone with a 2006+ VVT engine seen these issues following a timing belt replacement, or other service? I did some searching, but was not able to find any info on Mud for the two codes I have.
Other people site loss of power after TB replacement from having it off a tooth or two, but I have not felt that. I haven't pushed the truck hard due to the CEL scare, but it seems to perform as it did before the service. I also believe that if the TB were misaligned, the engine would be giving misfire, or other codes (but correct me if I'm wrong.)
I would greatly appreciate any insight or advice. Thanks in advance.
