A thing of note that might help others avoid confusion: my truck had the rear DVD player option. In this, there was an adapter harness plugged into the R36 connector to run power to the rear player that was taking up a ton of valuable space behind the center assembly. The line ran out to the right side of the car and back from there. I was confused by it because it isn't in the wiring diagrams that I was using. I was leaving it in there until @jerryb pointed out that it wasn't a factory harness. I was guessing a DVD interface and was confirmed yesterday when I had the RR panel out. The two clues for me were that the female R36 had shrink wrap on it(factory connectors don't have this that I've seen) and there was an in-line connector further downstream behind the glove box that was not a factory style connector. I unplugged this harness and threw it out the door of the car, cursing it to be banished to hell for the troubles it was causing me. After that, the assembly was much easier to get into place.

The harness still attached. Note all the white wires, first clue to not factory:

The in-line connector by the glove box, clue #2:

YMMV, so follow the line for a bit to make sure you're not pulling something necessary!

HTH.

Dace Voit - Thanks so much for your excellent write-ups and photos. I’m days away from receiving the last of the parts (BTW- my parts list is identical to what you posted), so I’m encouraged by what you’ve done. Also, thanks again to Jerry B for his help on all this.

Thanks for the props Nick, but all the credit goes to @jerryb for doing the leg work on this. Also, check out @Njck22 ‘s post on this. There is good info in there as well. Good luck on your conversion. You’ll be psyched after it’s done. This non Nav set up is fantastic!

100% on Jerry forging the trail on this for us all. No way would I be attempting this conversion without his efforts to walk me through it all. Props to the others on this thread as well who have been a great resource and shared some lessons learned along the way. I received Jerry's harness this Saturday which means all I'm waiting for is the head-unit surround (DFP 11-15) which is en-route from Great Britain.

For those of you on the fence or worried about the availability of parts I'd like to let you know it was pretty easy, albeit expensive. I figure I'll be all in for the price of a killer rear bumper. I have a 2006 Land Cruiser (4/06 build date) and obtained all the parts except for the brackets from McGeorge Toyota. The brackets (86207 & 86208-60020) came from Amayama Trading and I sourced the surround from Car Audio Security via EBay. McGeorge may not have been the least expensive but they had almost everything and I felt most comfortable ordering $1600 worth of parts from a US Toyota dealer.

Head unit is next up. The Kenwood DDX9906XR is at the top of my list right now. Wireless Apple CarPlay and a very responsive capacitive touchscreen spin my beanie on this unit.

More to come as I progress....

Good to know. I'm having issues with my rear DVD (no power) and this has caused me to re-think the "dealer" installation. There was also a LoJack tied into the power for the rear DVD I believe and since removing the LoJack the DVD has not worked...

Huge props to @jerryb and others for all the work on this front. Factory navigation is the only complaint I have on this vehicle.

My truck also had LoJack installed as an option. I don’t know where the power came from but would make sense that it came from the same place. The LoJack and rear dvd installs were very clean in my truck. Other than the different connectors and different colored zip ties, it looked factory installed.

I pulled all that stuff out when doing the conversion. If you need a replacement part, let me know. Meanwhile, if you follow the LoJack cable to the front of the truck you will likely find it rise up in the front of the power station in the kick panel to a couple of inline fuses and from there over to the Stereo/CC/Nav console. Somewhere in that line you will hopefully find your problem.

Thanks! I haven't been under the dash in a year or so but, that sounds about right. I'll have to dig back into and see what I can come up with. I'm sure the kids would appreciate it.

This is what the rear DVD fuses looked like on my truck.

Thanks for the pic! I've to get under and look at mine again. I don't remember it being even remotely close to that clean of an install...

About to order everything at once. Anyone have any feedback on eBay sellers in UAE? I’ve seen a disclaimer about additional customs charges, just curious is anyone has actually been charged extra or not. I can save $200 on one part alone by going eBay UAE.

I've never paid any import taxes on anything from anywhere. I've not ordered from eBay middle East specifiaclly though. Everything from uae comes out of tax free trade zones, at least in my experience.

Hi, did your car have the dvd player cd 6 disc changer in the console? Wondering how that factors into this install.
Thanks!

The CD changer won’t work after removing the factory system. I removed mine and was able to source a center console insert from a 99 or 2000. Now I have twice as much storage in there.

Really struggling finding the exact brackets (86207-60030 in particular) I have an order in on the left hand side one that has not been canceled yet. Anyway, I know my local library has a 3d printer so I was thinking if anyone knows the exact dimensions of these things I can go and try and get some printed. If I am successful in this endeavor I would be happy to print for others as well.

86207&8-60020 is what was recommended earlier. That’s what I got for mine. But... I forgot the heater housing!! Now I have to wait again.

Why not get the 60020's? They work fine and last I saw were available. I didn't need to mod them at all. They have the extra metal on them but that doesn't get in the way.
