I love it...throw a new axle under it, and mod away. What size is the frame? The nose box rules!

Good luck with it!

cute, but I think that if you want a real offroad trailer you'd be better off starting with something else.

I tend to agree w/e9999... that thing is cute, but 12'' tires suggest to me that the frame would need some serious beefing up for off-road use.

I once bought a used cheapy HF trailer, only to have it totalled after being overloaded at the yard w/gravel. I spent an afternoon snagging new tires, off-loading the 800lbs, and generally got a great lesson in using the right tool for the job.

For $750 you have a lot of options in the used side, or materials for a custom build.

With that nice set up yah got going in your rig.. I second e9999... get a good base trailer and build up from there....

BTW.. that would make a killer banana trailer !!!

I'd pop the box off, weld up a decent frame, add a new axle, and yer out maybe $300 in materials.:meh:

This is what I had in mind. I already have steel so a frame would be easy to make up. Axle and tires, piece of cake. I see the potential. Now, to just make up my mind.........

Then all you need is the yellow paint!:flipoff2::banana:

I think it would be cool because it's different.

Looks like it needs a small outboard motor.

Sounds like a good idea.

I think those are the best ideas, scratch build a frame and use the box to your liking. It'd work fine!

looks fine for road use, but doesnt look nearly as strong to withstand off road abuse. at least without reinforcements on the frame, body, axles, tongue..etc.

Most of us in the offroad world tend to overbuild without too much reason. I have found that although I built my trailer for "hardcore" use, it has hardly seen any yet. Most everytime I know I going into hardcore trails the trailer gets left behind.

I think your statement that "looks fine for road use, but doesnt look nearly as strong to withstand off road abuse." is perfectly accurate. And I have found most trailer owners use them more of glorified pop-ups rather than trail companions.

Just another .02

Well I bought it, figured I couldn't go wrong. Im growing more and more impressed with it. It was very well built.
Anyway, starting to order some parts to fix it up. 3500lb axle, steel for a frame, paint, latches, ect.
One question though, Im going to go with a 16" rim and 285/75 tire. Is a standard 6" wide trailer rim too narrow for that size tire? I have the tires already so just need to order some wheels.
Ill get some pictures up soon.:cheers:

Yep...I think you need at least 9-10" for good coverage.

I think you got yourself a good start.

Good luck,

Not sure what you mean. 9-10" for what?
I know that tire can run on a 8" rim so maybe your talking about something else?

I'm running 285/75R16's on late model GM alloys which are 6.75" wide. 6" might be crowding it a bit narrow, but if you don't mind the tread having a small crown in it I think that it would work.

Are you planning on having brakes now or in the future? Can I suggest that you should, particularly if this will see rough trails. Trailer brakes will add some additional control over how the trailer behaves on the trail. My trailer didn't come with brakes and they are something that I plan to add.
My reason for mentioning this is that it will have an impact on what you decide to do for any linked suspension.
